    In Between Doctors Issue

    Hello,

Needing some feedback/direction regarding some recent changes with my TRT protocol. I'll try to be brief:

    - been on program for a year now of test injections with great overall success
    - original doc left practice, switched to another doc in office; started off bad, he wanted to go back to doing gels; was a red flag for me because if he read my chart be would've seen that's what I started with originally only to have my T levels go lower which lead to switching to injections.
    - after voicing my concerns with going backwards, he dropped it for a few months until my follow up appointment
    - at recent appt, he said he wants me get blood work, then stop injections for 2-3 weeks, have blood work in 3 weeks, and then start back in with the gel.
    - I did do first set of blood work and like all prior labs, things were looking great (not to mention I feel better then i have in years).
    - at that point I decided to switch to a new doctor closer to me that someone recommended;

My challenge is first available appt isn't until 12/15 and I might have 2-3 doses left between now and then (I'm taking .25 every 3.5 days).

Should i just take the last 2-3 doses and be done until 12/15 appointment? Or should
I stretch out the time in between injections - maybe to 7 days vs 3.5? Or should I even try to find another doc to see me sooner in between the transition to new doc?

Lastly, is going without for 30 days not a big deal - I'm still new to this, have had great success so far, so I'm definitely fearing the unknown.

    Thanks for the guidance.

I would try calling your old Dr. first. Explain your concerns with running out of your script while between docs and request one last refill to keep your medication steady until your first appointment. If the old doc refuses, call the new doc and explain the same thing. With the right attitude and a little patience, you should be able to get one of them to refill your script. Jus remember your not doing anything wrong, your on a prescribed med and you have the right to keep your meds stable. If you've been on trt for a year, you will definitely feel the effects if you come off for a month.

Yep! I bet the new doc would be willing to get you in early if you explain you will be out of your meds.

This is good advice but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this...the old doctor would be the only one that could refill the testosterone in this case. This is due to testosterone being a controlled substance (CS), and as such, the prescribing physician has to put his hands on the patient. Of course some states have different CS laws that do not line up with federal, FL being the prime example, although I'm not sure how much longer that will last. Anyway, I could be wrong but that's always been my understanding.

You're right about that here in Florida but it all depends on the Dr and the pharmacy. I've had the experience of both sides of this. All depends on the Dr. I would give the above advice a shot, all they could say is no.

No doc with half a brain would prescribe a controlled med without first seeing the patient. Personally, I'd (logically) explain my desire to stay with injections to the first Doc and then set the new appointment for after the Holidays. Worst case scenario, OP can pin once a week to stretch out the Test Cyp. Some on here actually prefer one injection per week over 2x weekly anyway...

Thank you everyone for the great input. I am here in MI and believe doc would need to see me first before writing Rx. I did call and leave a vm request over the weekend for the refill on the script; will give the office a few more days (per their timeframe given on vm) and then follow up.

Worse case scenario - if I do stop injections for 3-4 weeks, anyone have insight as to what I could likely expect regarding impact on overall well being, etc?

    Thanks!
