    uneducated Dr. rant

So I see a urologist for my TRT, and an Endo for my hypothyroid, and thank god my Endo isn't in charge of my trt! I had a thyroid check up yesterday and he started asking some questions about my trt at the end. He said he wouldn't advise anyone at my age (35) to be on testosterone because its "proven to cause" heart disease, high blood pressure, and prostate cancer. He said he only recommends it to his patients who are at least 60 because by that age the life expectancy is probably short enough that the risks of testosterone likely won't catch up with them. He said he recommends I talk to my urologist about coming off for a while to "see where my levels are at now." I respectfully told him I feel better now than I have since I can remember and I have no desire to get off trt since my urologist seems to think everything is going great with it. I sure hope he doesn't have other patients who could benefit from trt who are stuck living with it because they're taking his word for it. Ridiculous.

This kind of physician ignorance is more common than you know.

book in for another appointment, waste his time for an hour- walk out and dont pay, citing that he has given no goods or services worthy of payment.

in fact print out a whole bunch of studies and attach an invoice - the guy needs to be laughed at until he cries.

any chance you can stop seeing him for your thyroid issues?

And this is how 99% of all endocrinologist think, yet over the. Purse of the next year we will see 9,482 threads started complaining about lack of endo basic understanding and another 48,376 threads asking for an endo recommendation because they're positive an endo is who needs to be seen for TRT. It never ends...people get so stuck on titles.

Btw, I'm not saying this applies to you Baxter....just clarifying.

Yeah unfortunately this is more the norm than the exception. Such a shame and to this day just amazes me... Only mistake I can see you made Baxter is you " respectfully" told him you feel better. He doesn't deserve that I.M.O for being an imposter. You strike me as a class act Baxter, so it doesn't surprise me. Sadly I'm sure I would of been the same way.
Now, if he kept me waiting an hour for that apt...........

Totally agree. Titles do not matter, knowledge does. It's why I always tell guys before you make an appointment to call and ask a staff nurse how the doctor treats TRT patients so you don't waste your time and theirs.....

Not seeing him again for thyroid was my first thought after I left. I've lost a lot of respect for his opinion overall that's for sure. My thyroid protocol is pretty well under control and requires nothing more than blood work every 6 months to make sure my synthroid dose doesn't need adjustment. I may just see if my pcp can take over that and cut out the Endo. At this point I can read my own thyroid numbers and decide if I need adjustments anyway. And sadly, I know this is common, just still unsettling to hear a supposed expert who is so out of touch. On a positive note, my urologist has been great. I mostly deal with his PA, and SHE is well educated on current protocols and studies and is very supportive of trt and its benefits.

Baxter, the key is as you said being educated. Your gp should be able to take care of the BW and your thyroid meds. That's why this site is so important. I was very un educated about TRT and this site educated me to find another Dr that was more educated about TRT. Lot of Drs out there not at all up to date on TRT. I also see threads like this here all the time.
