    Questions about hrt and androgel

Alright so went and saw a dr . Test levels came back at 270. Referance range start at 300. She put me on andro gel 12.5 mg one pump a day. Reason for my post is im a little concerned because she didnt sound like she new too much about hrt. Is this a proper dose?? And can i switch drs after starting the gel and try to get shots to get my numbers up faster ? I always get skin reactions to gels and creams. And it seems like more people like the shots. Not sure if thats true

Starting dose is 40 mg. Find another Dr or call her up and advise her she has made a mistake. You using 1.62% version? See attached link

This link will help you find a local Dr prescribing androgel in your area. Stick with gel for at least a few months. After you build up a relationship with your Dr, push for pins. First thing is to get on trt, then baby steps until you get yourself dialled in.Don't push hard. Dr's want to feel like they are in charge

K thanks for the reply. Just found out cost of gel without insurance. Looks like i wont be able to afford it. Not sure what im going to do now. Was thinking of calling my loval pharmacy and see if they can recomend a dr who frequently writes scripts for shots

Agel is ridiculously over priced. It's effective for a lot of people and is still the same testosterone as in injections, just a different delivery method. That said, Simon's on point.

If your insurance doesn't cover it for you tell your doc you want injections as they're so much cheaper. Have her teach you how to self inject and take it from there. You can even inject Sub-Q which may make it an easier sell to your doc. Starting at 50 mgs x 2 per week would be a great start.

Also, take a look at the finding a doc sticky thread for some tips on locating one.

Don't forget the a4m website. Search for the find a Dr page.
Call a compounding chemist, ask for referrals.
Its a Shotgun approach, but its all we have.
