t4 damaged body?!
hello, I am visiting these forums after a very unpleasant experience with doctor prescribed T4 (hospitalized me) for suspected hypothyroid and pretty much ruined my body and years of drug free progress I had going. at 26 years old, my once exceptionally hard, full and defined muscles seemed to just melt off my body, my whole body became lax (tendons slipping out of place, joint instability, sloppier skin). being on such a low dose of T4, I think these sides are dramatic, so there is a chance something more sinister is at play but doctors here are not particularly helpful. I have always been the kind happy to keep to the natural route as I always had satisfactory progress, but these new dramatic changes to my body seem beyond the scope of fixing naturally.
a little backstory: January 2014 I was hospitalized for two weeks, had seizure, conjunctivitis, could not walk for a month. diagnosis was ''suspected viral''. at the time I was on a low-moderate dose of the antidepressant effexor xr, and I myself am positive this played a part. about 5-6 weeks into starting this med I was weightlifting 3-4 days a week and doing an hour cardio in between days, and one day my gut suddenly became noticeable (always had a flat abdomen). I chalked this up to 'bloating' and continued on.. around the same time some of my muscles became a little softer (noticeably, but still full for the most part) calves, brachioradialis, pectorals, and erections seemed looser at the base area.. most other muscles were completely unaffected. there was also skin texture changes mostly around the abdomen and nowhere else (skin turned weirdly soft and mushy, could crinkle it up between fingers even at a low BF). the recent T4 negative effects mentioned first paragraph seem to mirror some of these of the effexor, but it spread to pretty much the rest of the body. the 'bloating' from the effexor never resolved, it's a 24/7 thing, doesn't matter what I eat or don't eat but it's been a nightmare and I have had a gastroscopy that showed up nothing. to me it seems it could be fluid in there or structural changes. the skin never resolved after the effexor either, which leaves me doubtful this negative experience with T4 will clear up on it's own which leaves me with an open mind to substances which may help get me back on track. after the effexor incident I could function normally and was back in the gym after two months, and back deadlifting close to 500lb raw in 1.5-2 year mark.. I was not worried at that time about getting back to good health but this time I am worried as it has been around 2.5 months on anti-thyroid and beta blockers and my body feels no better, the least exertion feels like the tendons will slip out of place in my abdomen area.
all input welcome :]

bump
anyone know if any of these issues are more consistent with thyroid/metabolic/hormonal issues, or if they go beyond that and into the realm of connective tissue disorders (which is what I'm afraid of)?
it has been roughly three months since treatment for hyperthyroid (thyrotoxicosis?), possibly induced by levothyroxine I was taking for three months prior for suspected hypothyroidism. I have been taken off anti-thyroid medication as of a few days ago due to TSH being back in the normal range (1.6) but am still on beta blockers. mind feels a little clearer the last few days but the physical symptoms do not seem to be improving much, which is worrying.
physical symptoms:
low muscle tone (whole body feels uncomfortably loose and soft, even when tensed)
thinner, more pliable skin that ripples when pushed against
fat feels less dense, but not in a good way (provides no cushion and my body feels extremely vulnerable)
possible high water retention (seems both pitting and non pitting) adding to the above (disrupted hormones?)
popping at seemingly all joints when I have never had any experience with this in the past. sometimes with even the slightest of movement or even breathing
some other connective tissue observations: ears move around more freely when pressed, same with nose, lips less full. erections are weak and are loose at the base. penile girth also seems thinner and I can wrap more fingers around my wrist than I ever could which suggests tissue loss besides muscle
scheduled to have bloods drawn in one month to monitor thyroid levels after coming off antithyroid meds. and in two months to see endocrinologist for follow up.
any thoughts, similar experiences or advice very welcome

Have you been evaluated for Ehler-Danlos syndrome?

I had a doctor mention it but he said it would be rare. when I presented to the hospital I had some blood tests some of which I believe were to test for connective tissue disease. I was in a poor state when presented to the hospital so I do not recall exactly what I was checked for, but I was told they came back as normal. my worry at the moment is that my symptoms do not fully match up with metabolic changes consistent with the abnormal thyroid readings. I will try to get more clarification from my endo when I see him in two months
