Friend has low T but libido is high

I have a friend that has been gaining weight and complaining about not wanting to do stuff, low motivation etc. He had thyroid disease run in his family so he was going to the doc to get that checked out and jokingly I said you should test your testosterone . We had always joked around that his must be off the charts because he's one of the horniest guys I've ever met. So all his results came back and his total test was 125. I couldn't believe this when he told me and now the doc wants to put him on trt. We assume the reason his test is so low is from abusing prohormones when he was younger. He often took any kind of prohormone without a pct because he had no idea what he was doing. Anyone know why he would still have a high sex drive with such low T?

Your libido isn't always the best indicator of if you have high testosterone levels or not.

Did he get his free testosterone levels checked as well?

For example there are guys who have low libido, get on TRT and have high test levels but still have the low libido.. Many times a DHT drug like proviron will help the situation and free up testosterone but it's not always the case. There are many other factors that play into libido, and a lot of it is even mental.

I was kind of like your friend, when I was 18-21 I could have sex with my gf and masturbate a couple times a day but when I got my testosterone checked before EVER cycling I had a level of 302, which is considered very low for a person my age.

But I went from 135lbs at 6'2 to 210lbs naturally with LOW test levels and maintaining less than 15% bf, weirdly my free test was in range though and I had low SHBG.

The more I research and look into hormones and their effect the more I find out how ignorant I am on the subject and furthermore how ignorant many doctors are, which is scary.

Hypothyroidism is a major cause of hypogonadism.

And that's a problem. Most docs test for TSH only for which the normal range is very broad, up to 4.5 from memory. Any TSH that's 2 or higher should really be investigated further. Suppression (sub-clinical, etc) can easily occur but because your TSH is "in range" many docs look no further. A more modern range for TSH is .3 - 3.0.

Horny-ness it's all in the brain and you don't really need that much T to activate the specific areas involved in sexual functioning.

I have plenty, yet no libido at all (unless I self-administrate dopamine enhancers).

I mean it's not that he was just horny, He was also hooking up with chicks constantly. Sometimes three in one night! Like wtf his total test levels came back at 115 and his free t was also very low. Maybe it was just engraved in his brain how much he likes sex lol

Lack of libido was the only low t symptom I didn't have. My drive has always been through the roof until very recently. I inadvertently crashed my e2 due to a shitty protocol from my doc. Didn't link it as matching up until a few days ago when I swapped docs and got my new labs in.

You're goddamn right man, I've had low libido/ED problems for 2 years and finally last doc I visited put me on levothiroxine med (my tsh was 3.9/4.1/5.1) now my TSH after 8 weeks is 2.1 with only 50mcgs and guess what... my total testosterone raised from lowish 300 to 580!. No more problems with ED and feel really great now.

PS. I was considering TRT due to this problem.. thank god I found a god doc!
