Would using an Aromatase inhibitor change my personality?
Hello,
I have no intention of using any steroids as my testosterone levels are in a good spot and I don't really care about getting big. As of right now I feel depressed, experience mood swings, anxiety, have low energy, have low libido, don't get morning wood, and feel fatigued. I suspect that high estrogen levels are the root of my depression, as ever since I developed gyno during puberty my mood started worsening over time. I cut all my vices out over the last several years (gaming, porn, masturbating) and replaced them with useful activities or hobbies, started studying more, exercising, etc., yet I still feel bad emotionally. I finally found a doctor who is willing to prescribe arimidex to me and now I'm dead set on fixing this problem once and for all. So will this actually impact my personality? I'm hoping to feel more energetic, driven, confident, stable, and happy.

First step would be getting a blood panel done. If the doctor thought this was the issue i would have thought he would havr pulled bloods already.
Guys on here sometimes have a nightmare having adex prescribed but your doc is handing it out like sweets lol.
Check hormones mate. Depending on where you live you may be able to do it privately or you can ask your doc

My total test is 981 ng/dL and my estrogen is at ~40pg/mL
I'm aiming for about 20pg/mL
I don't know my free T because unfortunately my insurance only covers free T once in my lifetime

We would need to see the ranges and assuming your estrogen level is actually your estradoil level....
I highly doubt your "depression" is related to hormones.
I am shocked that a doctor prescribed you Arimidex .
Your test level and thus your estradoil level are in the high end of the normal range.
You should be happy with your hormones levels.

well with a 981 total test, I would expect to see E on the high end of normal range. 40 isn't even that high Imo. guys on TRT with similar total test levels as you may keep their E levels even higher then that cause they feel better.
you can try to knock it down to 20 with an AI . but I'm not thinking E is your problem or issue. personally I feel way better with higher E levels.
just out of curiosity , what are your stats and your body fat percentage. whats your diet like

I would look at an SSRI over an AI for depression. There is a lot of things that can cause depression that have nothing to do with your estradiol levels

Perhaps some form of counselling may be beneficial?
I would get a second opinion from another doctor. Run through every issue youve had and show them your blood work. Maybe they will have a better soloution to your problem.
You dont know your shgb or free t but it is likely to be nothing to worry about. If youre that concerned look up private blood panels in your country and get them done.
Get a full health bloodwork if possible. You might find something amiss in there. For example an iron or vitimin deficiency for talking sake

I weigh 74.6 kg and am 178cm tall; I don't know my body fat percentage, but abs are visible while flexing
My macros are 20% protein, 40% fat, and 40% carbs
I have a large vitamin stack, too, so I don't believe that deficiencies are causing my state of mind
and yes, the estrogen mentioned is estradiol
Oh, and another reason why I'm convinced that the problem is hormonal is because I've felt significantly more fear ever since the gyno developed. I stopped feeling comfortable riding bikes as fast as I could, couldn't ski at max speed without feeling scared, etc.. None of these things were a problem at all until puberty hit. In a lot of ways I've improved significantly by forcing myself to do things I'm afraid of, but the sense of fear and automatic urge to avoid uncomfortable situations still remains and I hate it. I very much dislike having to push myself through small things that aren't a big deal when seen from an outside perspective.
I had a psychiatrist for a while and I used two different SSRIs with little benefit. I've decided to re-book an appointment with him to see if he can prescribe me an antidepressant that doesn't affect the serotonin system and see how that goes. I just e-mailed him, so I'll see how that goes.
But first, I'll try the arimidex and see how that goes. I'll report back in a few weeks if I notice anything beneficial

I agree that your hormones look good, and the slightly higher E is normal and proportional to your T level. I also agree that being able to see your abs is amazing seeing as your fats equal your carbohydrate intake lol... you'd be closer to the mark if you swapped the percentages of your carbs and protein (20% carbs/40% protein).
I cannot recommended going the antidepressant route just yet...if at all. There are people who definitely benefit from them but they are way over prescribed in my opinion. More often than not your ailments can be solved through lifestyle changes, rather than medication.
I've struggled with depression for a long time and what I've found is that it's an adaptable beast that you need to fight every day. The minute you get complacent and think you've figured it out, some other pain from another area of your life will creep in. The cause of your pain is quite possibly multifaceted. A combination of little variables in multiple areas of your life that are only slightly askew.
In addition to meditating and consistently asking yourself everyday "why" you feel a certain way and what things about you or your life that you dislike/do like, I recommend having herbal supplements on hand to test out and see how they can benefit you. I can recommend kratom, ashwaganda, akuwama seeds, blue lotus, passionflower, valerian root, and of course cannabis if that floats your boat (if not, i recommend be pure CBD for a non psychoactive reaction that still melts away physical pain and promotes a sense of well being). There is also kava kava to try, but I don't recommend a daily regiment of it since there is a possibility of liver toxicity with prolonged use at moderate doses.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I've invested countless hours of my life to researching the cause and remedy of my own depression and mental/emotional distress. It's made me extremely compassionate towards others with the same struggle and I'd love to help in any way I can by getting to understand your situation more.
