IRON deficiency and anti acid meds
I know there’s a lot of people that like myself have issues with acid reflux. I figured i would pass on my experience and maybe help someone with similar issues.
Basically I have been on trt for about 1 year and during this process I found out that my iron level was really low, so I began taking an iron supplement there was no change. My iron number didn’t change, to cut to the core-
The anti acid medication that I was taking was basically blocking the iron absorption process that occurs during digestion.
I felt like I had been living under a rock, lol but seriously I was feeling weak, tired,I had weird heart rhythms at times etc..
Anyway if you take anti acid meds for acid reflux I would suggest that you take a look at your iron numbers. ✌🏻

I just went through that whole experience myself. Had recent blood work that showed some CBC's being off a bit. MCV, MCH, MCHC all low and RDW high. All indicate possible anemia issues. I then ran an iron panel and my iron saturation came back at 4 with a scale of 15-55. It didn't even say low, it said "Alert". WTF. Now I've had hints of lower iron in the past but never like this. One interesting note is that if you are on TRT it can mask low hemoglobin, which normally drops with low iron. My hemo was fine. So, I requested an Iron Infusion via my Urologist. It's a two visit infusion with Injectafer. One week apart. They say you begin to feel better in a week or so and so far that's true. I did not realize how exhaused I was in the past and just kept motoring on through it. Can't miss a work out, nope. After treatment I began to have days where I felt normal and full of energy mixed with tired days. Hopefully on on the path to feeling better now.In my case I have Barretts Syndrome, which is a damaged esophagus and I've been taking omeprazole for years. After doing a little more reading via Pubmed i may drop that down to EOD instead of daily to help out. Also sleep apnea, which I have and have an appointment later this month to address that, can play into it.I saw a Hematologist the day after my last infusion and she agreed with my thoughts on the cause. Only other thing she needs is for me to get a colonoscopy to be positive. I'm due for it anyway.I hope your situation works out for the best.

I can relate to you kel. I been on "panto's" for the greater along a decade. I don't have Barrett's but mine was caused from a Traumatic Brain Injury from overseas. I have nasty slow absorption rate so I have to take iron 3 times a day. Gets old after a while but after I go my CPAP thing's got a little better and little more energy. Which I am still puzzled and my doctor is as well as my Hemo is great but my iron is low and I have a high RBC which I take baby asprin.
