    PWO insulin shot and bedtime

I'm going to add Insulin (humalog) to my pct. Starting at 5iu pwo (4xwk).

I know the active life is 3hours, but I still have a question to be sure.

My post workout diet is like this:

    7.30pm After workout slin inject
7.31pm PWO Shake containing 60gr Dextrose
7.45pm Shake containing 50gr Whey Isolate
8.45pm Meal with solid carbs and protein
9.45pm Meal (500gr high protein yogurt&60gr oatmeal&Little amout of fat)
    10.00pm Bedtime

There are 2 things, my trainer adviced me this for pwo shake:
    7.31pm PWO Shake 30gr Dextrose & 25gr Whey Isolate
    7.45pm PWO Shake 30gr Dextrose & 25gr Whey Isolate
So cutting the shake in half, what would be better? I thing the first part right?

And the other thing, my bedtime is 2.5 hours after injection, is it a bad idea...I cant sleep later because of my resting time.

Active life-time for Humalog is 4hrs.

Since Humalog's on-set time is 15min post injection, it would be wise to take your protein shake then, no need to wait any later.

Even though insulin starts to properly work 15min post injection, sometimes you can still feel a bit light headed right after your injection so have your dextrose immidietly post injection. Your body needs dextrose PWO anyway so you're actually killing two birds with one stone by doing this.

About 1hr later I would have your proper meal. I usually have 50g of carbs and 50g of protein. I usually have baked potatoes and grilled chicken breast.

About 1.5hrs later repeat above step once again.

By the time you have your next meal insulin will no longer be active therefore you can eat as you usually do.

Don't have your meals too close together. Even though insulin will help with shuttling of nutrients, your body can still only take-on so much. Remember, any excess nutrients will be stored as fat. Let your body digest the meals you consumed before consuming more food.

Ensure you always have some glucose tabs on you incase you feel a bit hypo. I usually carry a few cans on coca-cola on me (not diet coke), and remember, no fats while insulin is active.

As for the amount of dex and protein you should take, I advise taking 10g of dex for every 1IU of insulin. And your protein shake should consist of about 75g of WPI since insulin will allow your body to absorb more nutrients than usual.

If you are taking Humalog, I would not go to bed till the insulin is fully out of your system which is 4hrs post injection. I like to be super-safe and sleep about 5hrs post injection. You might have to train earlier.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I'll follow this then:

    7.30pm Insulin
    7.31pm Dextrose
    7.45pm Whey Isolate
    8.45pm Meal with carbs&Protein (potatoes&Chicken&Theespoon ketchup)
    10.00pm Meal with carbs&protein (potaties&eggwhite's)
    11.00pm Highprotein yogurt&litte essential fats
    11.05pm Sleep

That's the best I can do, I do everything I normally do in the morning then in the evening so I can extend my sleep the next day. That's 3.5hours after injection, knowing that the highest peak from humalog is after 1.5hours.

i usually feel the insulin wearing off in about 3hrs. But for those first 3 hrs I'm sucking on candy and dex most of the time.

    I love slin! Good luck

Humalog peek-time is at about 2hrs post injection, so at the 3hr mark the insulin is far from out of your system. Be careful.

Sub-Q is just over 4hrs, and IM is about 3.5hrs. I still always say IM is about 4hrs as I like to be "super-safe".
