    Carbs and slin

I understand the rule of 10g simple carbs per iu of slin, but why is it set at 50g carbs 50g protein in the pwo meal?

Does the next meal then go 2-3 hours as you normally would?

I'm asking cos I shoot at 6pm with the shake, then pro/carb at 7pm, then would pro/fat be okay at 10pm (bedtime) or would I need carbs with this meal.

    (I'm shooting novarapid.)

It doesn't have to be excatly 50g carbs & 50g protein, but we use that as a guideline as we don't want to consume too many nutrients as excess nutrients will be stored as fat, but we also don't want consume not enough incase hypo occurs. I have found the 50/50 works really well for most people including myself but like I said that can be adjusted depending on the user.

My first meal is about 1.5hrs post injection and then I have another meal about 1.25 - 1.5hrs later. You want to take advantage of insulins nutrient shuttling properties so you want to eat as often as possible, but you also don't want your meals too close together either as you want your body to digest the first meal before consuming the second one otherwise you will be storting fat.

Generally faster acting insulins are in your system for about 4 - 5 hours and I always like to be super safe so I never consume fats till at least 5 hours post injection, but a little bit of fat as insulin is exiting your system (4 - 5 hour mark) won't hurt.
