Should you take insulin straight b4 food or wait a while?

    Ok boys.

Ive been experimenting with slin at the moment, and was just wondering, should i take the slin just before meals or should i wait 1hr after the slin to start eating.

    Reason i ask is,

I did by sugar level before slin, i got 5.2mmol

30min later blood sugar still 5.2 mmol

45 min later blood sugar 3.7 mmol.

So the insulin did drop my sugar, then i had a large meal.

This was after 10ui of novorapid.Bloog sugar then went back up to 5.2mmol.

When i had the slin straight before food, my sugar was still 5.2mmol, then i ate, did my sugar 1 hr later and blood sugar still 5.2mmol.

Hope you guys understand what im saying, should i wait for my sugar to drop, then eat so all the glucose/nutrients can get abscorbed by the body, or should i just eat before it and not rely to much what my blood sugar is doing?

insulin is a very dangerous drug to play with....you could end up in a diabetic coma....i think its only worth it if you are competing in a very high level competition...adding to that...there will still be risk and side effects that will stay with you for life....

I think you mean humalin-R. I believe humalog lasts two hours.

Eat immediately after taking insulin. If you wait to take insulin an hour after eating and you're not diabetic, you rund the risk of turning hypoglycemic since your natural insulin should have taken care of any blood sugar spikes by then.

Hmm... I wonder if IGF-1 LR3 increases the duration or intensity of Insulin. I usually take my IGF shot in the morning before my workout. Slin PWO (Humalin-R). My blood glucose meter read 5.2 at the 6 hour mark. 30mins later, I broke out into a cold sweat and had to quickly take some sugar.

hmm not sure, I haven't every used IGF-LR3 or DES. Sounds like you're def. going hypo though...I'm glad you're smart and have sugar on hand. Out of curiousity, do you check your fasted blood sugar on a regular basis? If not I recommend that all slin users do this and if you do what are your normal levels?

OP, you should always take rapid acting insulin right before eating, unless you want to end up in a hypoglycemic coma (which has a high mortality rate). Rapid acting insulin includes Novolog (which is in NovoRapid), Humalog, and Apidra.

Novolog's onset is about 15 min after subq injection. It peaks in 40 to 50 minutes and lasts 3 to 5 hours.

OP, I'm not trying to flame you by any means but you should really know this stuff before using insulin. Download the PI from the website and start from there. Insulin is not something to play around with. I think it's best left to the pros, but that's just IMO.
