    disc problems and boxing

    Hey fellas:
I've got 4 small bulging discs in my Thoracic spine. from T5 to T9. I had two of them in T5/6,T6/7 from a car accident in 2003. I continued to box with no back pain from then until now. I recently found out I have the two more in T7-8 and T8-9.

I have no back pain from them, but am starting to be concerned that boxing will continue to make them worse. They are all "minor disc protrusions with no spinal cord compromise" from what the docs say.

I've had one sports ortho say that I should give it up, and another one say that I should ease my self back into training and let pain be my guide. If it starts to hurt, I should stop if no then keep at it. I only want to box for another year and then i'm calling it quits. I was a serious contender for a national title and find it really hard to get that close and have to call it over my back. Is there anybody or medical professionals on here that have an opinion of fighters competing with small protrusions in their discs?

I definitely don't want to cripple my self up fighting, but I have very little discomfort in my back. I worked out hard yesterday after a long layoff and although I'm out of shape I banged a heavy bag as hard as I could with minimal discomfort today. Just some soreness and tightness all over, which is to be expected from a long layoff. On the other hand I've heard some nightmare stories from people who suffer from severe back pain and don't want to go through that. Anybody want to weigh in?

    Thanks for your help

Anybody think I should give it up?
Does anybody know of a fighter that has a lot of back trouble and continued to fight? I'm depressed as hell, I can't believe its over.
