Severe Upper Back Pain... Help?
It's not a training injury (I don't think). My upper back from my Traps down to just above my waist HURTS... on the 1-10 scale it's about 2-4 when laying down perfectly still in proper orthopedic position, about a 7-8 when walking with a light load, and a solid 9 if I move in certain directions. I am going to the doc on Monday, but it's the regular "lay off it and take advil for three weeks" doc.
I'm going to try to get something to help me sleep (it's starting to effect my rest). It didn't occur with any particular movement or work out. The only thing I can link it to is doing my shoulder rehab (it started the day after I started my rehab with the thera-band) but I did my rehab right! WTF!? I have an ortho office I love, but it's 850 miles away in TX. I might be able to get a referral up here, but I'll probably end up going back to TX to see that doc. He's pro-lifting during rehab...
Until then does anyone have any suggestions? Like I said, I'm going to lobby my doctor up here for something to help me with the pain for right now (I'm taking advil by the handful and it's done all of NOTHING...) and I'm icing it at night, which helps for a little while. I did a chest+back WO today, it felt really good to move it around and get blood flowing through the area while I was in the gym (I didn't really push it, I just needed to move around!), but after I cooled off the pain's back to where it was. I'm concerned because I can usually work the pain out, but it's not happening. I'm worried tomorrow morning I'm going to wake up frozen.
Sorry this was ridiculously long, but I wanted to try to answer as many obvious questions as possible. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!Last edited by Dumbbell_Blonde; 11-01-2007 at 10:47 PM.

Shortly after posting this, I started to peak a fever... so I went to the ER (fevers and neck pain don't mix)... They couldn't give me a straight answer on what was wrong, but they don't think it's meningitis so they gave me some muscle relaxers and a couple scrips for more muscle relaxers and some pain killers. The guess is something muscular-skeletal related. I have to see my regular doctor next week, and they said to come back in to the ER if I got any worse or the meds stopped working.... we'll see how this goes.
