    BURSITIS SUCKS! Advice

I thought I tore my rotator about a month ago because it hurt like a mother to do anything, my shoulder was weak and my mobility was limited. Not quite sure how I did it, it could have been from MMA, lifting, bowling or even throwing darts. Anyways, I got an MRI and the doc said it was bursitis. She told me to stay off of it for 6 weeks and she wrote me a script for rehab. There's no way I'm staying off of it for that long or wasting money on rehab.

Has anyone else dealt with bursitis in the past? If so, what did you to treat it and what did you change in your routine?

Don't write off that rehab so quickly. I ruptured the bursa in my shoulder and physical therapy worked wonders. My shoulder was almost "frozen" and I regained full range of motion in about 12 weeks..Maybe focus on another body part until you're recovered???

You could probably look up shoulder rehab videos and how-to online if you are concerned over the money. Regardless you should def take it easy, if not a small injury could get far worse real fast.

Most sports injuries rehab include heat towel for 10-15min, followed by range of motion exercises, followed by light strength exercises. You can then finish with more stretching, massage the area, heat, ice, or just rest.

If you can't wait the six weeks to rest and let it heal, then it's pointless for me to offer any suggestions.

    Good luck!

I don't doubt that PT works. I've been through it before with my knee after an ACL reco. There really wasn't much they did that I couldn't do on my own in the gym (e.g. extensions, curls, wall-sits and squats). I just can't stomach paying somebody to do something I can do on my own. I might go for one session and then just do everything on my own. I've found some videos that go through some of the exercises.

Let me clear it up. I'm going to take it easy on the shoulders and do some PT exercises, but I'm looking more for advice as to what to change in my workouts outside of the obvious like MP and benching. What about exercises that aren't shoulder workouts like pull-ups and deadlifts?

for me, it's the pushing exercises that bug my shoulders.

It took a long time after each shoulder surgery to get back into shape. I only went to PT a few times but rehabbed the crap out of my shoulders the way they would have. You can get an electronic device like they use pretty cheap. I found the best way to help me with my shoulder injuries was to lift light and work the shoulders. I still will do 1 hour on just my shoulders, every two week, with only 5 lbs and under weights and still see great results. Never under estimate lifting light to help prevent and heal injuries.

They generally help you with stretches you can't accomplish on your own... at least with a shoulder it would be tough.
