Shoulder issues. Started back just 3 months ago
Hi guys
Recently dragged my lasy ass back to the gym. Getting back into a rythm and tonight had some serious pains in my shoulder.
I know i should see an expert but you know how it is.
My left shoulder tonight felt like it was going to give way. Seated DB press, when bringing the weight down to my shoulder my arms almost felt like it was dislocated, awful feeling. Also iv noticed simple things like putting down a dumbell on extension of my arm the weight feels like its pulling my arm from the socket with a sharp kind of pain. For instance i love DB row but on extending my arm it feels grim. To the point of being scared of going heavy in anyway. Tonights DB press was a warm up set with just a 20kg db. Any ideas on this?
Hope someone has an idea...cut me some slack aswell hard explaining injury on a forum lol
Appreciated.

Sounds like you've got an issue with your labrum, which is the ring of cartilage that holds the head of your humerus in place within the glenohumeral joint.
Could just be laxity of the cartilage or there may be a tear already. Impossible to say without diagnostic imagery. The fact that you're having sharp pain makes me suspicious of a tear though.
My advice would be to seek out a good shoulder specialist, preferably a sports medicine doc, for a more specific diagnosis. A general ortho likely won't know what to do with this type of injury.

Hopefully it's nothing major. Your symptoms should give you pause when working out though, shoulder issues can be a real pain in the dick to correct, and they rarely heal quickly.
My most important pieces of advice would be to listen to what your body is telling you, and take it easy in the gym until you get it figured out.
Many of us have pushed through shoulder pain, and many of us have regretted it, big time. The potential to make things exponentially worse is very real if you're not careful...especially when dealing with injuries to the glenohumeral joint.

Yes consult a pro
Or get s trainer to correct your technique
Or easiest yet....train around it. There are tons of shoulder exercises that you can do at a gym, so pick a few that don't hurt the shoulder and progress them like you normally would. Any movement that involves the shoulder will strengthen it...so if you can do a movement that doesn't hurt...you'll get stronger
Sounds like overhead presses especially with Dumbbells dont work for you. So run away from them.
And RICE the shoulder....especially the ice part
