    Smile 2006 Canadian Nationals~Another 2nd place...

    ......yeah that's right. This was my 9th show and 5th Nationals. So far I've racked up FOUR 2nds...A 1st at provincials...a couple 3rds...a 4th...and a 5th. All as a welterweight...hard to move up a class when workin' in the oilpatch, due to long hours and no days off. So I trained 5 months for the show.

    A little frustrated...but I'm over it. Saw the rest of the show from third row center. It was UNREAL as usuall...got a ton of free supps and clothes. The trophy is an EXACT duplicate of the 2nd place I recieved in'04 in same building.

    I had the chance to chat with the head judge Debbie Karpenko and check out the score sheets...9 judges...Gave me three 1sts....three 2nds....and three 3rds...high and low thrown out...which gave me 14 points and the winner ended up with 10 points. I had him in third or 4th. Gary Bartlett will be sendin' out pics hopefully soon.

    Here's some I took sat morn and sat night and a couple 48 hous later...

    Next Nationals are AUG 18/07 in Edmonton...A day before my **ay!!

    mmmmmm to eat REAL FOOD again!!!

    Cheers,
    Todd

    Well done T.. well done!

    I'm especially impressed with your condition from behind.

    You're a little flat accross the upper torso tho.. was that water-related?

    Hey no biggee...there where 6 of us in the welterweight class. I was 160.8 (5'5")at the weigh-ins fri @2pm. What's funny is at 3 hours earlier I weighed 164.1 and still ate 6oz potato and a few ozs of chicken. dropped about 500ml of h2o...and still somehow lost 4POUNDS in 3 hours!!!! (same scale).

    Crazy how the body works....still don't know how to keep the vascularity in my quads from friday eve till morning pre-judge. EVERY TIME I compete I lose the vascularity in my quads at about 4 am. This time around I litterally stayed up ALL NIGHT painting....pacing...Got to 565g/carb@12:50am sat looked 98% ready.....decided I was full...still looked good at 2:30 am(99%) laid down for 45min..by 3:30 am condition 94%...4:00 went for a 10 min walk...more protan coat #6...(back to 97%) 4:30 1/2 cup oatmeal/sug.50ml glycerol(98%)...5:00am 6oz steak...7am 3 chocochip cookies 1rice cake 1tbsp PB...<700carb>...8:30 1/2 cup oatmael/sug 9:00...1 king snickers 10:30 STAGE...Quads>>>lacking vascularity as usual....by sat @ 1am I was up to 1340 gram carb and veiny as F@CK!!! I cut my h2o off friday morn...yet consumed 800ml H2O for the remainder of friday and saturday. As for the diuretics it was thursday night 10pm 50mg aldactone friday 5am 50mg...4:30pm 50mg...and sat 4:30 am 50mg. As for the humalog fri 8:30am6iu and 4:30pm 6iu...

    I just don't know how to keep the vasc in my quads for the morning...EVER!!!

    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    thx

    You looked great bro, your conditioning is impressive. PEELED!! Congrats!

    The only thing I can think of for keeping the vascularity is maybe leaving out the Diuretic on saturday, unless it is ABSOLUTELY needed. Otherwise, nix it, diuretics will flatten you out, as you know.

    Copy the html tags: "["quote=FITFANATIK"]" for example... For every piece of dialogue you want to quote.. each section getting it's own html operator to initiate .. and to end

    e.g.

    "["quote=FITFANATIK"]" I"["/quote"]"
    "["quote=FITFANATIK"]" like"["/quote"]"
    "["quote=FITFANATIK"]" cake"["/quote"]"

    Simple.

    Stay off your feet.

    Additionally..Elevate your feet. Having your feet lower than your torso (and furthermore, the act of walking) encourages fluid to pool in the thighs... as the circulatory pull isnt as strong in the extremeties.

    The less standing and pacing you do.. the more vascular your quads will be

    Backstage at comps.. when others were pacing and worrying.. my former coach would have his athletes lay down.. anywhere... and have us keep our feet elevated. As a result we'd get more vascular by the minute. It's a habit i've kept backstage in all subsequent contests.

    Carlos, what's the reason for that? Does it increase pressure or something.

    ...I have done that in the past, but to know avail. Usually prior to walking on-stage you need time to do any touch-ups...pump+pose...oil...and all this ends up taking 15-30 mins...so you end up being on your feet and this will give time for pooling again. But should there be any? If you are tight and dry with no extracellular fluid it shouldn't matter...I guess you are talkin' blood volume.
    When my legs get vascular it doen't matter if I'm siting or standing.

    It could be the diuretics...only did 50mgx4 aldactone over 36 hours.
    OR...could it be blood pressure?
    OR...could be under-carbed?
    OR...spilled over?
    OR...too dehydrated?
    OR...could it be just plain old nerves?
    be nice to have a sauna backstage...

    There was 1 year where I had a blow dryer backstage and hit'em with that. Shitty part was they where startin' to come around and a stage hand had me stop cause it was too loud.

    ....things that make you go hmmmm????????

    when i logged off today.. i got to thinking about your chest prob.

    I'm tested so i can't try this..

    Have you tried a muscle irritant like 3 days out?

    I had this idea when i shot Ethyl Oleate (a solvent..which i'm allergic to) into my pecs. Swollen.. lost a couple straitions but oddly looks times better.

    So i'd fathom, strategic application of an irritant like esciclene would solve your prob on pre-contest.

    I'd sarifice a few striations in a lagging bodypart for fullness anyday. (Actually that's what my former coach would have me do.. pump my chest up with pushups backstage til it was very very full.. Too full to show striations.. full enough so as not to look like lagging bodypart). It's sure to improve your look onstage

    Blood volume and intracellular fluid yes. (extra-cellular, i.e. subcutaneous fluid, no)

    How far before a contest do you drop leg-training?

    In addition to resting backstage.. i keep my legs elevated each time i'm at rest everyday from about 3 days out. My last leg session also is 5-6 days out.. I find the more rest the legs get (you're on them almost all day afterall).. the more vascular they can get.

    Could be rest + reduced blood volume + lowered BP (both due to diuretics use..) Maybe you need to experiment with your diuretic dosage prec-contest to establish the minimum effective dosage.

    This works cus it's a systemic response to heat.

    Vascularity can be stimulated tru this means and tru topically applied vaso-agents. (tru the pulling of blood below the skin)

    Not sure how long this effect lasts tho.. as i have never done it. The closest i have is tru the use of niacin (the flush variety).

    p.s. gotta say again.. very impressive condition

    ...not really a big fan of needles, especially in the pec area. It crosses my ethical boundaries as well...kinda like using synthol. Thanks for the idea tho...one thing is for sure. i was rushed backstage...the pump-up room was up 2 flights of stairs and down 2 50ft hallways...so I got a mear 2 sets of light incline presses....off to oil and another 5 mins with rubber tube dohicky things, a few sets of pushups...and all of a sudden, there you are...I line, hoping for the best...

    This year I did a brief 30 min. leg sess. rep range 10-12...2-3 rep short of fail 10days prior to comp. Did cardio up till 4 days out.

    Oh well...who cares anymore? Whats a little vascularity anyways? Does it really affect a judges scorecard? Maybe...it would mine...

    anyways...There's still one sclice of pizza left....I hope...
