Forced into a nuclear arms race?? Really Johan, what kind of twisted, counter intuitive logic brought you to that conclusion? Forced?? We are reducing our offensive nuclear capability and investing in purely defensive systems and we are the ones forcing a nuclear arms race?? China already has the largest standing army in the world. They already have the nuclear capability to employ the MAD doctrine...but they continue to develop more ICBM's with greater capability.........so who the hell is trying to start an arms race??

The leaders of China know..without a doubt...the US would not attack China. They are our largest trading partner...and we are about money, just as they are now. The US can't win no matter what she does. Reduce its strategic bomber force...not enough. Reduce its strategic nuclear arms...not enough. Develop a "defensive" missile system...oh my God...the Americans are acting in a provocative and destabilizing way....bullshit. Thats why so many Americans have adopted the attitude toward the rest of the world of piss off. Kick us around for being the "world bully", but at the same expect us to lead every fvcking police and humanitraian mission in the world. Fvck that.

Its long overdue for Japan, and Europe to help with heavy lifting and pay something for the security they have courtesy of the USA>

China + Russia = Communist Force to be Reckoned with, especially since Russia has the second largest nuclear arsenal and China has the potentially largest army. Both countries would not mind one bit if the US was dethroned as the worlds superpower and we know this, hence the defense.

No arms race, we already won that cold war...

Well my whole reasoning is that so far china has been the only major power that is resonable with its nuclear arsenal. They have enough to ensure MAD and thats it. Not 10 000 warheads like Russia and usa. Only a couple of hundrad. (They are also btw the only nuclear country to state that they will never use nuclear weapons against a non nuclear nation.)

Now USA is destabilising MAD and China will tag along and build better ICBM's just to ensure MAD is still in effect. Either by building a larger arsenal of regular ICBM's or put money into ICBM's that can avoid the missile defense like the russian ones.

I can se why USA want to be able to claim imunity from chinese icbm's, that way you would be abel to tell china to **** off if they approach taiwan. I can also se that china do not want to be in that position. So it will force china into developing its rocket forces that simple. If you dont think this is in the minds of whatever administration in charge(Im sure democrats would do the same thing)you are fooling yourself. Let China have taiwan.

The only thing I want US to lead the way in is disarming its nuclear arsenal in a much faster pace. Downsize it with a factor of 20 or so and show the world nuclear weapons=madness. As for the rest I could not care less, your role as a world police is self imposed.
But I do support a joined EU defence force that could be used for purposes like that.

What is so horrible with the thought of a superpower bigger than the states Its just a matter of time. No one is ontop forever. Did the UK go under because they lost the throne as the biggest empire after the world wars? Did france go under because they lost the throne as the badest in europe after the napoleonic wars?

China and Russia isnt the good friends most think. Remeber that they where on the verge of war during the cold war. Im sure Russia isnt to happy about the massive areas of resource rich but hard to protect land near the chinese border.

we should not be worried about the country with 100+ nukes, we should be worried about the rogue state or group of people that posses 1 nuke. The people that want to strike us wont do it via ICBM, they'll just stick it on a freight ship and unload it in one of our east coast ports.

Nothing is horrible about it, but trying to knock the states off the top militarily will be the end of the world as we know it. Personally, I think Russia and China would see the massive loss of life as worth it if it meant global domination without western influence, but that's just me.

Those on top are always worried about how the world will look when they are not ontop anymore and it almost always becomes better. The world is better now than when the brittish empire ruled the world. The world will probably continue to improve regardless of what one nation is in charge.

China will be forced into democracy sooner or later. Im not afraid of living in a china and india dominated world.

I dislike when one country is overwhelmingly strong and can do whatever they wish. I want balance. Thats why I support a stronger EU so we can work as a counterbalance to US and china.

I dont think anyone will knock the states off its throne. I think the states will be dominante for a long time, I mean heck you guys almost spend more cash on your military then the rest of the world combined. But its going to be a healthy thing when your not alone in charge anymore.

    largest trading partner is Canda

the economic relation between the US and China is so great than a war between the two is suicidal for China, without anything to gain, except lose in economy, military and well everything.

China will develop its military to balance his regional power, but china is soon going to a democratic way, and withint 20-30 years China will be a free country enchacing free market and a great ally to the western world.

I hope you're right, because I've heard numerous reports of strong anti-American sentiment within the chinese government...I'd much rather see them be a partner in the advancement of humanity as a whole..

Just as long as someone else ponies up the cash, than I'm all for it. I really do not see the EU becoming a force to be wreckoned with any time soon. You guys do not work hard enough to get to the top.

there is no support among europeans to be anything but a economic power. EU scepticism is still very high. If someone high up even suggested a real EU army, navy or something similar they would get shoot down within moments.

It has nothing to do with "not working hard enough". Its simply not something the avarage euopean wants. Im quite the opposit but I am in a very small minority.
