Sea-Tac Airport is a fairly large and busy airport. The Port of Seattle is the agency that runs the airport and Seattle ports. Because it is Christmas the main areas of the airport was festooned in numerous decorated Christmas trees scattered all around the different levels.

Recently a Rabbi took issue with the trees and demanded that a lighted Minorah, at least as large as the largest Christmas tree be displayed in the most prominent and conspicuous area of the airport AND that the Port authorize and allow a large and publicly viewed ceremony in dedicating and lighting the Minorah and that failure to do as he demanded would result in a massive lawsuit against the Port.

The Port declared that they were too busy to accomodate the demands of the Rabbi and ordered all of the trees removed to eliminate the threatened lawsuit.

What the Rabbi hadn't counted on was the reaction from the employees at the airport. They organized a massive petition drive to have the trees returned and called a press conference of all of the local broadcast stations to cover the story/event.

It didn't go over well for the image of the Rabbi, his organization, or his jewish attorney. The people were pissed as was the tone of the newscasters reporting on what had happened. The next night the attorney was on tv spinning damage control and claiming that no lawsuit had been threatened, that it was all a big misunderstanding and over-reaction on the part of the Port of Seattle and that the Rabbi was 'appalled' that the trees had been removed.

Funny how so many witnesses for the Port had been aware of the entire episode. The Rabbi wasn't prepared for such a strong and overwhelming reaction to his tirade.

The Rabbi and Co. are in COMPLETE spin control right now. They definitely didn't see this blowing up in their face like this...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe Americans collectively are getting sick of hearing everyone bitching/suing about everything.

    We can hope.
