    Obama for President

    Obama for President
    Bill O'Reilly's Talking Points
    12/11/06
Senator Barack Obama visited New Hampshire this weekend and he wasn't skiing or climbing Mount Washington. He was speaking and signing books, getting great publicity in his quest for higher office.

The senator hasn't announced anything, but is clearly raising his profile and exploiting fantastic media coverage — the press loves him.

Behind the senator's adventure is the far left. He is their guy, the new Howard Dean. The committed left has bailed on Hillary Clinton over Iraq and now sees Obama as their big hope in 2008.

A look at the senator's positions exposes only one chink in his leftist cred: He opposes gay marriage, saying it's not a human right. Obama does support civil unions, but draws the line at nuptials.

Now the committed left in America is energetic, has money, has media sympathy, but lacks numbers. Air America is a bust and most far-left projects bomb, but Obama has some momentum. It will be interesting to see how far he can take it.

Right now Americans don't know much about the senator. He wants out of Iraq, but what about Iran and North Korea? How would he deal with them? We simply don't know.

The rise of Obama has to be killing Hillary Clinton, who did not anticipate the challenge. I still believe the senator from New York will get the nomination because old guard Democrats don't really like the far left and feel comfortable with the Clinton style.

On Super Tuesday, Senator Clinton will unleash a media barrage unlike anything ever seen in this country. Her money is almost unlimited. And money talks, even if Senator Clinton doesn't. Like Senator Obama, Mrs. Clinton avoids tough questioning.

So there you have it, a rising Democrat star and an established Democrat star. The anti-Bush press will embrace both, but right now Obama is the man.

    And that's The Memo.

Obama is charismatic and likeable but his senate record and positions don't impress me so I won't be voting for him if he runs. The one good thing that might happen if he runs though is america might start getting used to the idea of blacks in high positions. This would make it easier for the next black politician to run for president, governor, or senate.

Agreed. I do like Obama, at least his outward personality. It is still a stigm in politics no doubt, but I think that any person who speaks with common sense can at least overcome some of this, which from what I have heard Obama does. But in the last 8 years there have been more blacks in leadership positions than ever before, which is a good sign. Will I vote for Obama? I doubt it, unless there are really no better candidates. I just do not think that 2 years in the Senate qualifies anyone for the Presidency. But in 2012, it is very possible as long as he doen't go off the deep end (Gore).

he did pretty good in the 1984 election, when you consider he was the second black person to run a nationwide campagin, and he was able to win several primaries. he did even better in 1988, won even more primaries, and at one point was the democratic front runner.

i'd say much longer than that because we can't seem to elect more than one black senator or governor at a time. until I see more than one black governor and senator at a time, the presidency is still far away.

I would support Powell, albeit I doubt he would be interested in a serious run for president. I agree perhaps Obama in 2012.

Agreed, unlike Jackson they have the vast political prowess and intellectual capacity to be chief executive nor do they seem single minded. Personally I respect Powell and am not much of a fan of Rice, seems like the least charismatic, doesnt seem to portray the same confidence..........seem the least capable of being a leader, IMO.

Exactly, a radical candidate (either far-right or far-left) will not win the Presidency. A candidate needs to be for all of the people, not just the 5% on the far side of either aisle..........

I never had any strong oppinions about Powell and his UN speech about Iraq WMD gave me a negative impression. Powell let Bush, Cheney, etc use his credibility with Americans and the world to push their war agenda with evidence Powell did fully believe in. Had he stood up to Whitehouse and called them out, the Iraq war might not of happen. This event basically crosses Powell of my book. Never liked Rice.

um, yeah Nader is a wacko that wants us to throw our nukes into the ocean so we are defenseless against our enemies. Not to mention all our technology and sit around a campfire and sing songs until the pot fries our brains into crispy critters

Nader is not wacko. I saw him in person and he is an intelligent and witty person that doesn't get much media attention. If he had been allowed in the 2000 or 2004 debates, he would of made Gore, Bush, and Kerry look stupid.

I don't like Rice because of her rampant support for the war and Bush policies are civil liberties. At least with Powell, I could tell he didn't fooly buy Bush's Iraq and civil liberty policies.

duke's a racist who tries to pretend the KKK into a "whites rights" organization than what it really is. Wanting to get rid of nukes isn't wacko. nukes are the only thing that could destroy mankind besides an asteroid. Also when did Nader say he would just throw them away instead of negotiating there reduction with Russia and other nuke states?

Ok, Ill say it again. He wants to get rid of ALL OF OUR NUKES. Even if someone (Iran) is not a nuke state currently, they could soon be one. Its foolish and suicidal.

Having nukes and being able to deliver them are two different things. The only country that can really threaten us is Russia because it has enough nukes and the capability to hit us everywhere despite of are large landmass. Iran can't hit even if they had nukes because there longest range missle is like 1300 miles. I know he wants to get rid of weapons so do millions of people. But show me where Nader said he would just unilaterally get rid of America's nukes.
