Getting Older and Need to Get Healthier
As I’m getting older, I’m slowing down a bit and I am looking for advice on living a healthier life. I’m turning 55 this year, and I’ve tried to get into exercising, but I haven’t found a program that I can stick to. And dieting is even harder. Like a lot of guys my age, I carry my weight around the middle, and my doctor has told me I need to drop a few pounds. I’m also mildly diabetic, and would really like to get that under control. If anyone has any tips or suggestions about what’s worked for them when it comes to loosing weight and being healthier, I’d love to hear them.
On top of being overweight and having to watch my diet because of diabetes, I’ve been having some prostate problems lately. I have to go to the bathroom all the time and my sex life is not like it used to be either. For the most part, everything looked okay based on my last checkup, but I would love some suggestions on products I can try, or things I can do to help with prostate function. I hear there are diabetic friendly health bars and Supplements that are available that can help with an Enlarged Prostate.I’m weary of buying things online, because I don’t know how helpful these things are. They seem promising though. Anyone have any products they like? And products that have worked for them?

I can see that Eat and Jamy on here so they will take care of you. Just post up your stats like age, weight and height. And also calculate your BMR for them.

Welcome to AR. You can go to the diet section first off. So much info over there it's crazy. And those guys are always willing to help, and they probably know about some of those supps you want to try.
I'd say as far as exercise goes just get into some cardio and light weight training with higher reps. But your diet is the key to what you want to achieve.
Good luck man.

Welcome to AR! Never to late to take back your life! Diet section and workout sections will help you a great deal. You may also want to look at the HRT/TRT Wellness Fourm. Lots of good info there.
Can recommend saw palmetto for yor prostate condition. I was in the same boat as you last year. Doc said, not if, but when you will have heart attack.
Prostate was given me a fit.
Lost about 50 lbs to start with, my avatar pic in the corner was me last May at my worst, and have been hard back at the gym 5 days a week. It feels great. Best shape of my life now! Get the weight off, change your diet, and you will see your prostate problems start to go away soon enough.
Good luck and

you said you cannot find a exercise program you can stick to. you also said dieting is harder. Well I hate to tell you this but those are the two key components that will get you your life back.
You can do it through diet alone but if you add exercise to the regimen it will happen three to four times faster.
you DO NOT need any supplements at his time. first get your life style changed. You need to look at this as something you will be doing for the rest of your life. Not a diet you will be doing until you loose a couple of pounds.
Being a diabetic will not hinder diet and exercise. your prostate will not hander diet and exercise. But diet and exercise will help both.
If you put your mind to it and dedicate yourself to this you can accomplish your goals.
I personally know two people that have reversed there diabetes through diet and exercise. this means they no longer take any medication for it.
what you mentioned about finding a program you can stick to is the key. It don't matter what program you do as long as it is a program. Walking, running, swimming, bicycling, Hey even boxing or martial arts. it don't matter; Just do it!

I know how hard it can be , i had a ten year break from training from 30 to 40 and getting back in the gym was very humbling. The only thing i can say is dont put too much pressure on yourself, dont set unrealistic goals ,just at first try to enjoy the gymnasium experience (atmosphere ,fit girls etc ). Once you actually enjoy going the rest will come. Too many people try to change from an unhealthy lifestyle/diet over night to a healthy one then blow out after a month. Subtle changes to start with ie change what you eat for breakfast ,nothing else to start with . Then when that becomes a habit change what you drink . Get my point slow but sure .A year seems like a long time but at our age (48 for me ) time flies. The most important thing is that you are here this time next year still doing it. Best of luck
