Does anyone wear a belt anymore?
I quit wearing mine because after looked over my weightlifting history I noticed that every time I had a back injury I was wearing a belt. So I figured why bother. If it didn't protect me from injury then why wear one now. I also heard that not wearing a belt will increase your core strength.
Any thoughts?

I wear it on my working set on squats, but not the warm up sets.

I wear my belt on 3 reps and under. The best thing about the belt is that you can lift more with it, same goes for knee wraps. I just tell people I wear it for safety reasons

That's pretty much what I thought. Lift more with. So that's the rub, build core strength or train with heavier weight. hmmm

You don't have to wear it all the time.
Throught the first half of a training cycle I don't wear one at all. It starts to come into play when my sets get very heavy.
I don't wear it on all my sets until they are all singles at the end of the training cycle.

good ques
me as a weightlifter i wear it for squats and clean and jerk.
when doing dead lifts or goodmorning exercises i dont use the belt as im working on the back muscle
and also the belt gives a psychological advantage..
on the squat it helps you in keeping the arch in the back to prevent injury
and i also ieave the belt on me between sets [but i soosen the belt] this will keep the back warm.
also belt will not help you in hetting good ventilation...
but better be safe
if someone dont feel safe with the belt, so he dont use it..

I olny wear a belt when I go to work or at the clubs
I have not used a weight lifting belt in over 5 years. Good form is all you need to prevent injury

I gotta say that I have forsaken the belt for more than six months and I don't miss it.
Thanks all for the replies.

the belt gives me alot more confidence when handling heavy weights so thats the primary reason that I use it. Just the mental aid it gives...

i dont wear one anymore, it makes me "feel" the lift better without it and i can correct my form more easily. i been lifting heavy deads and squat without it since a year now and i havent got any injuries so far.

I always wear my belt when lifting heavy. It makes me feel more comfartable and I sure do lift heavier as well. I wouldn't do a single heavy rep of squats without it...Iäm addicted to it..haha

Depends. during normal routines I leave the belt off for deadlifts and squats for the warm up sets and for the first two working sets but on the last work set I wear a belt. If my routine is heavy like a powerlifter style of training I leave the belt off for the warm-up set but wear it for all other lifts. I've a bad back and it goes out on me at least two or three times a year. Either way, if you wear a belt or not, nothing will help more than proper form for each lift.
