    my latest meet results

went to a meet today. was going to do it as a warm up for another meet in 2 wks, but it turned out to be the all time best meet i ever had

    weight class 198

    squats,
    1st 705 easy
2nd 755, was going to stop here and save it for the other meet, but everyone told me it was easy and to take a 3rd, i tweaked my back a little on this one
3rd 800, new apa all time open record. i was thrilled and suprised to say the least

    press
    1st 505 easy
2nd 550 easy again, so i decided lets go for broke
3rd 600. easy again, tied the apa all time press record, tweaked my back more, but i figures, i am having such a good day, i have to keep going

    dead
warm ups felt awful. my back was fried,
1st pull 550, felt like crap
2nd 600, felt even crapier, but this gave me the all time apa total record in my weight class and my elusive 2000lb total i have been shooting for for the past year!
3rd 625, moved and inch and that was it, i had nothing left in me for the day

i have to thank all my team mates, and friends who have helped me get to this level, i would never be there without any of you. everyone on the board who has given me advice or encouragement, it really does help me a lot. my family and fiance for their support. i plan to never compete at 198 ever again, and just cruise at 220 and have fun

That is awesome Doc, well done!!!

Did you feel competeing at 198 was part to blame for your fatigue and back problems?

i really am not sure, i cant figure out my dead anymore, it is a mess. it is the only thing i am not happy about, i pulled 600 raw at 181, and now with equipment i am barely pulling the same weight? i cant figure it out. my dead seems to be better in training and worse in meets. i really dont think it was the weight loss, i seem to be able to pull more when i am lighter, the heavier i get , the worse my dead is. tweaking my back on my second squat certainly didnt help. also on a side note, on the 600 pull, my grip started to go in my left hand, i was lucky to hold onto the weight, i never had a problem w grip ever, but i got lucky today they gave me the down command before i dropped it. i have to work on my dead and figure it out. going to take some time off from full power and focus on getting my dead up. in 2002 , people were telling me that i would be pulling 700 in a few months. well it is 6 years later, and i am no damn better. i have to figure out what i need to do to get my dead at least to 700lbs

What I've heard, for any of the phenoms to work well, they have to be super tight, is that right? What's your shoulder's size and what size of super phenom do you use for meet/training? Is the rule - shoulder's size + 0 good place to start?
    Thx

that is correct. they have to be super tight. my shoulders are about 50-52 and i use a size 46. i would go shoulder size minus 2. the shirt will look WAY to small and be hard to get on. you may not even be able to get your regular grip for a bit until the shirt breaks in. my shirt looked so small, i thought it was a shirt of a girl that we train with on occasion. but with time, it breaks in and you are good
