    Passed out DURING ME Bench

The other day was ME Bench day. I went in and warmed up as usuall, worked my way up then decided I felt good enough to hit a PR (RAW). The PR was only 10lbs heavier then my last warmup and was a weight id tried before (and missed).

I got under the bar, got set and had my spotter help me out. I took it down, touched my chest, pressed and thats about all I remeber.

Next thing I know theres all these people standing over the top of me. I couldnt work out what was going on (nor did I really care). I still had headphones on so I couldnt hear either. As im looking up I start to realise that im in the gym, on the bench. Then I notice that all these people have a bar in their hands. I felt a tingle in my face and then it clicked. I remeber asking if the bar was on my face and my spotter was shaking his head. They managed to rerack the bar and I pulled off the headphones and satup.

Persoanlly I thought it was pretty cool

how much weight was it? How much do you weigh?

If you're passing out during strenuous activity this could be a sign of a serious underlying
medical condition. I've strained so hard on bench that I've gotten nose bleeds but I've never passed out from Bench (I've come close on squat and dead lift a couple of times) but i've never actually passed out.

If this problem persists. Talk to a medical professional. You should be able to strain to failure without passing out.

Its never happened before, iv come close on deads but never on bench.

I think the headphones had something to do with it, I dont think I could feel myself becoming light headed.

going to have to agree with phreezer, you might want to go to the doc just to make sure theres nothing wrong with you.

ive heard of guys seeing stars while leg pressing and others throwing up after heavy workouts but i dont like to think you passing out on flat bench is an acceptable risk

especially with the risk of dropping that much weight on yourself. maybe it wouldn't do much to your chest, but if it hit your head or something before your spotter could react that would be bad.

i've only seen stars after doing pr weights on legs. never bench

Ive had the usual stars and burst blood vessels before, but this is the first time loosing consciousness.

I think it was just a result of a bad setup. Thinking back I may have been so psyched up for the lift I breathed into my lungs rather then with my belly.

i have passed out on all three lifts at times.

    deads happened twice in training

    bench once in training

squat twice in the same contest

it sucks! it all has to do with breathing, dehydration and your blood sugar. when i passed out on the press and deads it was due to improper breathing. the squats was due to blood sugar and dehydration due to droping crazy body weight in a short period of time

When I workout I workout in my home gym in the basement and thats something that I always feared. When Im benching heavy weights, I always wonder what would happen if I ever had a stroke or something as Im doing it and I would prob not be alive to see the aftermath.

Good think your okay though and hada spotter, cause back in high school gym I use to choke my friends out unexpeced in gym and they would wake up and not know what just happned. I suspose that is almost the same thing.

careful man...sounds like something id laugh abouyt too if it happened to me but u should probly just make a doc appointment just to be safe. what if it is a medical condition? u could get hurt from the condition or next time, if people aint around ull choke yourslef out with the bar. it definately aint cool to leave the gym in an ambulance or even a f-ing bodybag.
