    deadlift sucks off the floor

    deadlifting 405.

i tried today to pull it off the floor and couldnt get it moving.

however if i put 405 in squat rack, pick it up. lower it down to ground i can super easily pull it back up!

why do i suck so bad off the floor? im not bouncing it when i do it off squat rack. i just cant get the initial pull off the floor goin.

any tips? i read t nation articles on deadlift from a deficit etc.

    thx

but i lower it to floor n pull it just fine?

for reference i can pull 385 off floor justfine. the extra 20 lbs and i cant budge the freaking bar. thats ridiculous. i think my set up is shitty or something? bc pulling 405 back up does not feel heavy.

but from a standstill i cant get it moving.

    You are lacking hip drive

Use a 4" lift to increse your ROM.

Do you squat? How much? How deep?

thanks i will build a 4" box tmrw.

    i have box squatted 365 x4 (w tbol)

but my new lifting partner diagnosed my non box squat as a 'half goodmorning/half shitty squat'
i did 335x1 for a decent depth last week. (his words almost parallel)

work on my deep squats? as my weights r (slowly) going up im seeing technique is important.

i can deep squat (ass to floor) only around 275.

try standing on a box, about 6" off the ground and then deadlifting off the floor, this will be really awkward at first because the weight is even lower now, so you will have to use a much lighter weight. But after doing this a few times then returning to a regular deadlift it will seem much easier. You may also want to try power cleans to help with your initial hip drive

Smart arse huh, you use a couple of plates for the 4" lift.

Box squats ( with perfect form) will improve your squat technique and greatly increase your hip power.
