    Back, but shoot I don't even do them. I haven't fully understood the purpose of deadlifts. If they are just for the lower back. I really don't concentrate on the lower back. There are also stiff-leg and regular deadlifts. I thought one hit the back and the other the hamstrings.

    I would rather get the las and the upper back to pop out and get that V look!

    Deads with back, always. Deads hit your back hard, to do them with shoulders would not make sense unless you did all your back workout then.

    They are for all of your back and to a lesser extent all of your body. Do 5 heavy sets then consider if it just does lower back. Find me a person who can DL 500lbs plus with no 'V'.
