    Rear pull downs

Yes or no? I have always done them when i do back. I have never had an injury due to them and i have been teaching my gf how to work out and when she was at the gym the other day a trainer told her that it was wrong to do rear lat pulldowns. I always see pro bodybuilders at the gym doing them as well. So which is it? Who is right? The trainer or the bodybuilders? Do them or dont do them?

Not sure how to answer . I had went heavy doing rear pull downs and pulled a muscle , didn't do for long time. Didn't seem like a natural motion . Now That I am older I watch form alot more and make sure my hands don't come down below top of shoulder . I switch between front and rear pulldowns but don't do both in same week . Therefore I guess my advice is , If it feels right , then must be ok ? No expert here. Just my own experiences.

The reason I don't do rear lat pulldowns is the same reason I don't do rear military presses. It just doesn't feel natural, and it feels like I could injure something at any moment. At my gym, we had a kid pop his shoulder out of socket mid-set doing rear military presses, and the weight fell right on him. Had to call the ambulance. If it doesn't feel like a natural movement, I wouldn't do it.

Not a single good reason or benefit to press or pull behind the neck.

All you are doing is putting the structure of your shoulder at a disadvantage. Which muscle do you feel you are hitting going behind the neck as opposed to going in front?

I don't do them because a guy at my gym cracked his vertabre when the bar slammed into the back of his neck.

I agree with you as well, I actually do to the front and back and change it up, but I think I get a better isolation on the backside then the front.

Maybe its got to do with body comp more then just location of the weight, meaning I do my tris different then alot of people, but then again mine are pretty big and trainers have told me Im doing it wrong. As long as I get stronger and bigger I could really care less what it takes to get there, but im not big on injuries..
