About 75% of cases of pubertal gyno will resolve on their own within 1 to 2 years of onset. Sometimes Tamoxifen may be prescribed, usually at a dose of 10mg twice a day. Assuming his blood work comes back indicating normal growth and development then I personally would push for treatment being that he is already self-conscious about it. If it is painful for him all the more reason to seek treatment.
