It's pretty difficult to get an appointment with a nephrologist. I had to wait several months before I could see the one I'm seeing and it's several months in between appointments.
Usually, you have a problem that's beyond your PCP's ability to treat it, so he gives you a referral to a specialist (I think most insurance companies require this). I highly doubt just having high blood pressure would be enough reason to see a nephrologist. Especially when your Egfr is in the high 70's.
So you don't have any other conditions that would cause you to need to see a nephrologist?
No other condition that I am aware of. My primary doctor suggested it based on my egfr numbers. My primary doctor said I had stage 3 kidney disease. My Nephrologist told me my primary doctor don’t know what they were talking about. My Nephrologist did their our series of tests on me, 24 hour urine sample, etc. All my tests came back fine. I have really good insurance. I don’t need a referral to see a specialist. I got in within 4 weeks of my appointment.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...
