i know this aint cool to put in trash can but how should they be disposed
Put them in an empty suppliment jug, and duct tape it shut before throwing it away.
you could get a safety disposal container and put them in there, personally i only opened the individual package they came in a little, then when i was done i would recap them, put them back in the pack, then the weeks worth i used in a plastic container and put them in the center of my trash so they were shielded, doing it that way there were five layers of material between them and the outside world so i figured nobody would get poked by them
thanks
put them in a plastic container and leave outside ya local doc surgery or hospital at least.
They will be taken in an destroyed rather than innocents to hurt themselves on.
And no local healthcare centre will ever rat you to authorities, that will be happy you have dealt with it the way you have if it was safely.
get a cardboard milk/orange juice box/bottle type container. put plaster of paris in the bottom, drop needle in, each time you drop your needles in put another cup of plaster of paris. now all the needles will be suspended in a cement like substance.
now you have a milk carton with a cement block in it mixed with hyperdermic needles. but unless someone goes through the trouble of smashing this thing open its relatively safe
I realise I may get criticised for this but to be honest I just separate the needles from the plunger and very securely return the needles in their cap and put them in the bin. I dont believe its likely at all that they would come out of their cap and prick some body. A sharp tuna can lid is a much bigger threat to a garbage collector in my opinion. As for the possibility of a blood born disease being spread, the chances that I have one and that it would survive on the needle an infect some one poking around in my garbage is not a medically likely outcome I dont think. Its not like I leave 2mls of my blood in the syringe with the needle attached and ready to fire.
While I believe that hazardous material boxes and incineration of injecting equipment is dvisable for intravenous drug users who have a habit of sharing injecting equipment I dont see the need for it for a responsible steroid user who does not share needles, does not have regular unprotected sex with strangers, and does not regularly have people rummage through their trash.
I actually had a person who works at a local community health center and who is a diabetic admit to me that she to shares my opinion and puts her insulin needles in the trash. Thats not to say I am certainly right but it did make me believe even more strongly that my behavior is not putting others at risk.
Drop them off at a needle exchange center. Most major cities have one. Or put them in the sharps container that is in every doctor's office in the world.
What in the world is with all this nonsense? An empty creatine jug will hold around 100 needles, and never open up if you duct tape it shut and throw it in your garbage... no one is touching anything after it has been compacted in the trash truck, and everyone is safe. Why over complicate the issue?
I tend to either make a soup out of them or throw them in the soccer field next to my house... The soup it pretty tasty, but i dont use enough needles per week now days because i dont use prop any more... I miss my soup
I'm really surprised at all the people that throw them out in the trash. Dirty syringes are medical waste. There are laws against throwing that stuff in the garbage for a reason.
When the trash is compacted, and your supplement jug is smashed into bits, those syringes can spill out in the truck, fall out of the truck onto the street where kids play.. any number of things.
I put them in an empty protein jug.
i get a bottle of bleach and keep it under the sink and just put them in there when iam done.
use a protein jug. when full, i throw it in one of those big dumpsters outside of a bar. who the hell would jump on 1,000's of broken beer bottles?
why not? its an unlikely scenario with it falling out of the trash truck, but say it does happen... think about running down the street barefoot and having a 1.5" hyper****ingdermic needle stick your foot after it rolled into the gutter like alot of trash does.
How many trash trucks do you see that get every last bit of trash into the truck and none falls out from when the can is lifted?
buy a sharps container and drop them off at the local hospital. no ones gonna **** with a big red plastic box with a biohazard sign on it.
/thread
throw them in an empty protein jug and then fill it with spray foam insulation
OK, From now on, I'll buy cement mix and mold my used pins into paving stones and build a patio. Happy?
thats a great idea.....
Wow, needle dispensers, needle exchange, hospital, etc...
Yes there are laws for a reason. A lot of people just throw them in their empty protein jugs tho.
manorexic i like the spray foam idea!!
throw away? ive been using the same one for months.
This thread has brought out some strong opinions and also some amusing comments. I dont know how things are where everyone else lives but in Australia you can have needles and associated paraphernalia (alcohol swabs, plungers ect) dropped off to you by people who work for a community outreach program. They will also give you a bio hazard jug if you want one, and collect it from you when its full. I think they collect them so that they can redistribute the needles that you return together people and that is why its a free service
On second thoughts prehaps they dispose of them in a sanitary manner. The services usually run between 7pm and 11pm and you just call up and they can usually meet you in your area that night. It is completely free and legal.
