** Small waist - Belt Vs No Belt **

    Ok guys,

I wanna know personal opinions as well as personal experience

There are two sides to this debate, i will outline both and then give my opinion at the end

Wear a belt to keep ur waist small

Wearing a belt all the time while training will keep ur waist smaller because you will not be contracting and developing the obleques

Not wearing a belt will keep ur waist small

Not wearing a belt will help to keep ur waist smaller because you are constantly forced to contract ur TVA and abs, thus keeping them 'tight' and keeping ur waist small.

My opinion is that heavy lifting will add size to oblequs, thus giving u a thicker/ blocky look

I think u shud wear a belt for deadlifts, squatts, bent over rows, heavy overhead press etc.. But not all the time.

However i have heard big ronnie saying that wearing a belt all the time made his waist smaller

    What do u guys think?

I only wear a belt for max or near max squats and deadlifts, never at any other time. I read years ago someone, maybe Charles Poliquin, that said that it builds in weakness in your core. I just concentrate on keeping my abs tight on these lifts.

I never gave it any thought about if it squashed the fat around my mid-section to make my waist smaller.

its not about squashing fat LOL

Its about weather or not ur core muscles, mainly obleques build up and give u a blocky waist

who cares how big your waist is... if you wear a belt every time you wont strengthen your core and you will suffer severe injury in the future

I'm confused, are you saying you can't lift heavy with a belt or you can? Are you saying that lifting heavy makes you blocky? Are you saing that the belt weakens the muscles so they don't get big and blocky? I lift heavy, relatively speaking, and I'm not blocky, I'm just fat! Although I've heard people say my mid section would be thick even without fat there, are you saying that's from not wearing a belt?

Im not stating anything for the record, im simply showing bith sides of the argument

Some people think that if they wear a belt all the time they can keep there waist small/not thick because it stops the obleques and abs working as hard all the time while ur lifting weight

If u have ever squatted heavy with no belt u will know what i mean about obleque's coming into it big time the next day

If u squatt heavy with a belt you do not get this in the obleques the next day because they havnt been trained as hard

I would like to know others feeling on this

My waist has always stayed small and I never use a belt. Mainly because the only belts that fit me comfortably are far more expensive then what I wanna spend. I've only got one side of the argument as I've never lifted with a belt long enough to have a valid argument so my post is one sided.
