The best overall team will come from the AL Central.
In the East, pound-for-pound it's the Blue Jays, Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox and Rays in that order.

yankees have no SP..they fvcking suck, I hope they lose... Redsox has a chance...Jays have a scary lineup...cards have bo chance..... Mets, pretty much offense only.... My team that I think has a shot this year is The Twins...even know I myself is a A'S fan
-

That's funny! Cards had no chance last year, atleast by the experts...We did okay We have the best player in baseball, we always have a chance..

mets pretty much offense only wishmaster? have you seen either of the games theyve played so far their defense is sick and 7 double plays in 2 games.....that doesnt seem like offense only to me
-

I can vouche for that...I've watched both games..Mets can dig it..

im being realistic saying that the jays 3-5 starters are bad. im not talking about 1-2 halladay is awesome. burnett has great stuff and pitched a complete game against the yankees last year. but gustavo chacin? injured for the most part of last year after showing some potential in 05. then you have tomo ohka...yea. and then josh towers...yea. not exactly scary. and taking into account that halladay and burnett both have history of injury, its not exacly a lock to say they'll make 30-35 starts each. b.j. ryan is a great closer, i really wanted the yankees to get him. if i remember correctly jason frasor has a pretty good arm. but the entire bullpen outside of ryan is pretty shaky. what happened to that guy brandon league? he seemed to have good stuff but i notice he isnt on the 25 man roster..
for the red sox... if matsuzaka can have an era around 4, and beckett can do the same, the red sox will be pretty scary. putting papelbon in the bullpen makes them a legit team. i was not worried about them until they got a closer, which they now have. they need timlin to stay healthy as a setup man tho.
for the yankees... rotation is there weakest point, the red sox have the advantage if all their guys pan out. wang is a stud, pettitte is a gamer, moose is solid. pavano has done nothing, but after watching every spring training outing and his opening day, i feel like he still has the stuff to be successful. kei igawa is garbage i dont want him but he has improved throughout the spring and is making is ML debut this weekend. however taking into account that by the all star break, the rotation might be
1. clemens
2. wang
3. pettitte
4. moose
5. phil hughes/carl pavano
thats pretty damn solid. their bullpen is vastly underrated. they have multiple power arms who can throw strikes and are reliable and who could be closers/8th inning men on most other ML teams. scott proctor, farnsworth, vizcaino, and even brian bruney... oh yeh and then we have some guy named rivera for the 9th
they have the best lineup in baseball. no discussion there but feel free to argue that.

btw i really enjoy talking baseball with ppl but i can get "enthusiastic" about things...

i agree with number twelve about the blue jays and the red sox but not completely about the yankees they do have the best lineup in baseball but they arent going to play like they have the best lineup in baseball they arent gonna do shiiiiiiiit thins year and im not just saying that cause i hate the yankees i just think they buy good players but thats not good enough you need ot have good players who have chemestry and can play well together which the yankees do not have

but the rotation is not very intimidating for the players at this stage in their careers. correct me if im wrong but i think their rotation is:
1. glavine
2. el duque
3. oliver perez
4. john maine
5. pelfrey
i feel like oliver perez has a chance to rekindle what he used to have and be really good, i have a feeling he is gonna pitch a great game against the yankees this summer in interleague. the mets bullpen is good even tho the loss of duaner sanchez is huge. and their lineup is prob best in the NL.

buying good players. the only homegrown players for the mets are wright and reyes.....the rest of the roster was assembled via trade or FA signing!

the mets lineup isnt intimidating but they get the job done they win games i feel the whole team is solid and they are playing to finish what they started last year
-
04-04-2007, 11:36 AM #25
yankees homegrown starters. posada, cano, jeter, wang, melky, mariano rivera and then if u wanna go to bullpen players who they aquired while they were still in the minors, scott proctor (robin ventura trade), brian bruney(released by D-backs) and then you have sean henn ( drafted 2000 1st year player draft).
im doing all this off the top of my head btw
-
04-04-2007, 11:36 AM #26
yea buying good players every team buys players but the yankees buy the best they can bc they have the money to do it, lets bring the salary cap into baseball and see how the yankees do then
-
04-04-2007, 11:38 AM #27
i feel that the mets lineup is very intimidating..it resembles an AL lineup. reyes is amazing, then you have delgado, beltran, wright, alou and even lo duca is solid.
-
04-04-2007, 11:38 AM #28
The Mets spend a shitload also! Beltran,Delgado,Pedro to name a few..

soriano <- dont remember his contract i think 151 million : cubs
ted lilly (4 years 40 million) cubs
major offseason aquisition by the yankees...andy pettitte 1 year 16 million with a 2nd year player option.
how can you criticise the yankees after the mets dropped rediculous amounts of cash on beltran, delgado, billy wagner and even to a lesser extent moises alou...
calling the yankees big spenders is overrated and overplayed

im not saying the mets dont drop cash im just saying if there was a salary cap the yankees wouldnt be the dominate team they have been for so long

Yeah, I've some pretty pitiful first pitches in my lifetime. I think my all-time favorite was when Barry Williams threw out the first pitch at the Dodgers/Twins game two years ago.
The announcer called him "Greg Brady," which was the character he played in TV roughly 35 years ago. I just found it so amusing that they never even used his real name as he's such an unknown, C-level star that they had to use an obscure stage name. Pretty insulting, I think.
