How's juice instead of carb drinks?
I'm already spendin a pretty penny on protein shakes, bars,Udo's, and creatine. I have been told by several people that a 100% juice immediately following a workout will suffice just as well as carb drinks. I workout first thing in the morning, so I follow it with breakfast which is 1 cup of oats and a 60g protein shake in Skim Milk. Would 12-20 ounces of apple, grape, or orange juice with 1 cup of oats be an ample supply of PWO carbs. Thanks for your replies!

For one, you're setting yourself up for failure by working out on an empty stomach. As far as carb drinks go, why don't you just use dextrose like everyone else? That stuff is dirt cheap. Cheaper than fruit juice or anything.

I haven't seen any dextrose mixes at either of the local nutrition stores. I guess I could go into the city to get it if its that necessary. How much time should I have before working out after eating? Should I eat just a carb and protein? Oats and a shake okay or should I have a cleaner protein? Thanks!

You could get your dextrose either online (kent nutrition . com) or see if they carry it at a liquor store, sold as corn sugar, I think. I usually work out 45 minutes after I eat a light protein/carb meal. I go for a little bit of chicken and some brown rice/black beans, but I think a shake and oats would be alright.
