optimum nutrition vs. isopure
ive recently been taking optimum nutrition because it tastes great and is loaded with enzymes for digestion...i was telling my workout partner how cheap i got it for and he started going on about how "that stuff is such cheap quality and i bet it goes right through your system and doesn't even get absorbed." He then went on to tell me that isopure is the best and that everyone who is "in the know" in bodybuilding knows that isopure is the highest quality protein there is bar none. he says that hany rambod and a few people he knows that train pros all agree that isopure is the best...what are yalls opinions on this?

yeah isopure is better quality but I wouldn't go so far as to say that your ON protein isn't getting absorbed. everything comes down to price per performance in my mind. Is isopure (or any isolate protein) better than a concentrate or concentrate blend? Yes, of course. Is it worth the extra money? Depends. In my mind, no. I only use iso if I can find a good price or if I use it for a very specific mixture such as PWO or Pre-Bedtime. The reason is that the difference I see in results is so minimal that I can't justify the increase in price.

Isopure protein is made up of primarily ion exchange whey isolates which have the highest protein contents per gram but most of them are beta lactoglobulins which are the cheapest and least beneficial. i believe isopure has somewhere above 50% beta lactoglobulins which is pretty good and they add some more alpha lactoglobulins and lactoferrins. Opitimum nutrition, which is better in my opinion, have a more broad spectrum of proteins such as hydrowhey which is an extremely fast acting form of whey protein such as ion exchange whey isolates. It actually has some ion exchange whey isolates in there too, and also their primary protein source, microfiltered whey protein and whey protein isolates which has over 90% protein content gram for gram and it doesn't denature the protein that occurs during the ion exchange whey filtration technique.

though i don't know much about isopure personally, i do know that ON is one of the best. however, i did find one that's even better. dymatize whey protein has more high quality protein, it's a slight bit cheaper, has much more flavors, and has a far more impressive amino acid profile gram per gram.
i had been doing the research lately to find which whey i wanted to order from online, and dymatize won out by a longshot. i had to get the amino profile from the company by e-mailing them cause it's not on the label, but it certainly should be, cause they got all the other competitors beat out as far as i've seen so far. do the research and you'll see what i mean.
from what others have posted, it seems like isopure may cost more than it's worth. also, your friend telling you that the ON is most likely just running through your system without being absorbed obviously has no idea what he's talking about. many people read one article (usually created by a specific company looking to hype up their product and criticize others) and buy into it without doing any further research. this is where your friend seems to come into play. toss his info, research the different forms of whey, and see for yourself which companies make the highest quality whey.

Another ON drinker here, I've tried Isopure but think it tastes horrible. I'm hook on ON's Choco Mint.

Truth of the matter is it's all very rapidly absorbed simply because it's in liquid form and is whey protien, and if you rely on shakes all day instead of whole food sources, any efforts will yield minimal results. I'd save my cash and go with the ON.

Isopure is the best protien you can get, and it tastes good as ****. Try dutch chocolate, I'll drink it for no reason cuz its so good. Better products, better quality, better results. In my opinion, not many other protein's really compare to Isopure. Actually, I first heard about it from a former Mr. Olympia contestant, I think he actually won a while back, but he's my fathers freind. Im going to ask my dad about it. So choose your pick whether its Isopure or sum other stuff, but for me its no contest.

I have several cases of isopure bottles that I got on the cheap (green, red, orange). It is possibly the hardest thing to drink ever. Plus, it runs right through me.
+1 for ON whey. Muscle milk isn't bad either for right when I wake up.

I own a couple of nutrition stores back home, but am currently finishing up education in medicine and I can tell you the only real difference between these two is the types of protein and thats it. Some of you hit in subjects which mean so little, it's worthless justifying. For one, the isopure has slightly more high bioavailability protein, whats that mean? your body assimilates 88% of ON and 94% of isopure...not much of a difference...other topic to touch on would be that isopure has all ion exhange isolates, which means faster absorption in an overall aspect. ON has some proteins that are already denatured so there is quick absorption, so they are on equal plains as far as that goes...difference? ON has concentrates which are slower absorbing, by what? maybe 10-20 minutes...to be honest, the only protein that truly can keep a body in an anabolic state and truly helps feed the actual long term "growth" of muscle are proteins which can supply amino acids over a long period of time, constantly. I tell so many people to try running nice size amouts of caseins and supplement with any amino acids they may not be getting (this is very complex and only useful for a top athlete or BBer) Whey is good to take in moderation, very small amount, just enough the human body can actually assimilate it (15-20 grams of whey in morning and 20 grams during the last set of a workout) long term proteins should be used ALL the rest of the day, caseins are good, egg proteins, if needed some extra glutamine in the evening. Many people disagree with me, but my knowlege and experience in nutrition and medicine speaks for itself- nutrition stores, med school, and my chick is an LD/RD (dietician) Try it and see not only how much money it saves you, but hassle of taking drinks every two minutes, and working even better as well.
when taking long digesting proteins you need maybe a few dosages of 20 grams 3 times a day at most. OR 20 grams twice a day...between the 40-60 grams of casine and the 40 grams of whey, those approx 100 grams/day plus the rest in nutritious food should cover anyone up to 200+ pounds in lean body mass.Last edited by Equiguns; 04-28-2006 at 04:14 PM.

I just picked up some ON chocolate...unfortunately at GNC. I had to listen to the douche bag at the counter tell me how it is horrible protein and doesn't have isolates and that they are a shady company, etc. All the while the dude looks like a bag of shit
highly annoying, thankfully i usually order crap online.
