To Supplment or not to supplement....

Hey everyone... i am fairly new here but been reading articles and such for a while... I used to weigh 228. I just joined a gym and do a basic workout followed by 30 min of cardio after 2 weeks i am down to 220 (thanks to diet). My main goal was to loose fat and gain muscle so since I had lots of fat I figured to try and loose fat first then try and bulk up.. Anyway just to give you a lil background on me..

now I am taking Creatine tablets, Soy Protein Shakes, and a CLA Supplment. Now I am thinking of experimenting with some other supplments such as
L-Arginine, Carnosine, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and switching my regular creatine to a CREATINE with ETHYL ESTER... what do you guys think???? any experience using any of these???

*EDIT* I dont not take Whey protein because I am allergic to protein in the milk (i.e. whey and cassein) So I am stuck with soy

Leave the soy protein for the chicks. Use whey instead.

Drop the soy protein and get whey.
Drop the creatine tablets and get powdered Creatine Ethyl Ester
Pick up some powdered AAKG (arginine) both can be found at www.nutraplanet.com
    and dont worry about carnitine/carnosine

Soy protein contains soy isoflavones, which can raise estrogen levels. Not what you want to gain muscle and loose fat. Use a quality whey protein instead. Creatine monohydrate tablets are practically useless without a loading agent (carbs). I use a creatine capsule called CR5. It's mainly esterfied creatine, but also has some krealcalyn (sp) and a little of a couple of others. But you don't need carbs with it and it doesn't give a lot of bloat. I'm not that big on AAKG, but I do like a pre-workout blend like No-explode. Actually my favorite is one called Pump Fuel, although it tastes like azz.

thanks for the reply.. Sorry for not stating earlier... I cant take the whey. I am allergic to milk. And it is not a lactose thing, I am allergic to the protein in milk (i.e. whey and cassein) So I cannot take whey I am stuck with the soy. Yes I heard it raises estrogen levels and should make you gain wait but I have been losing weight not gaining any so I dunno. There really isn't any other option though is there?

Why are the tablets better? I have seen the Creatine Ethyl Ester in tablet form...

Also same thing with the arginine.. why powder?? I was looking at some L-Arginine tablets... so why is the powder better??

Thanks for all your help man!!!!!!

You could consider an egg based protein also. And for esterfied creatine - stay away from the tablets and go capsules.

l-arginine and l-carnitine are good, idk about any of the others. as far as the creatine...mono has been known for giving bloat and CEE doesnt but if youre not worried about getting bloated then w/e one you want works. ive used both and got the same results from both

it depends on what creatine youre taking...some recommend to take pre and post workout and some for just postworkout. the directions will be on the product for when and how much to take. also you should be taking your protein right after you get done with your workout too, not just before.

For cutting i would definately get some Acetyl L-Carnitine, CLA, BCAA's, ALA, Multi Vitamin

Get those and you are good to go.

as far as creatine goes, i would go with mono since it has been time tested and i don't bloat. but cellmass worked good for me too, just costs more. I take my creatine 45 minutes before lifting, since it takes about an hour for it to hit the bloodstream and muscles which would hit you right about 15 minutes into your workout-perfect timing. i also take it again right after my workout with protein to take advantage of the pump and natural insulin spike-except theres no sugar! Works good for me, but everyone's different. Any thoughts on this fellas?
