Have had a cold for the last 8 years
hi guys, not quite as the title says. For the last 8 years now i have suffered from a head cold (blocked or runny nose) on average once every month, over the years i have tried many remedies (garlic, oranges, lemon, over the counter medicine ...............) but nothing has worked. This year i have had a cold on average of once a week it lasts from 1 day to a whole week and when it gets really bad i have to spend the day in bed, since jan 07 i have been taking 3000mg vit c every day and on the days i do have a cold i bump it up to 20000mg (mega dose) but again this has not helped. I have been to the doctors a few times over the years and have had blood tests but nothing shows up, i went to the doctor 2 days ago we had a long chat and the outcome was again there is nothing he can do for a common cold.
So guys i need to know Why do i keep getting re-infected, i take good care of myself, i work and live in a clean environment, i dont suffer from any allergies. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME HELP!!!!

maybe you have a weak immune system, try taking an antioxident cocktail, theres one called super antioxident which is pretty good

If you actually are getting sick that much it seems VERY silly to me that your general practitioner wouldn't refer you to an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist. After having frequent sinus infections I was sent to one and he ordered a CT scan of my sinuses. They ended up flushing them out with some saline solution and I feel a lot better.
You should probably get a new Doctor if he's saying there is nothing he can do. Unless you're running your finger across a public toilet and picking your nose it sounds like something is wrong internally.

zyrtec...It had to be allergies. They can get pretty bad. I have them year round.
I think you should do what these guys said and get a second opinion. Once you find out it's allergies you might not need medication. Justthe thought of knowing its not a cold might make you cope better mentally.

sorry for the delay in my response been ill in bed but im much better today
over the years i have been to 4 different doctors all have the same conclusion 'no cure for the common cold, go home have some lemsip'. I have gone through sooo many boxes of lemsip but it dont do nothing for me (dont know why i keep using it!!!!!)
As for the allergy theory, my symptoms are those of a cold
[LIST][*]Symptoms come on slowly[*]slight headache[*]runny/bunged up nose[*]slight sore throat
however i have tried various allergy treatment in forms of nasal sprays and anti-allergy pills, the results were some what hit and miss, some days it did really help most other days i had a cold. The reason why i dont think its an allergy is because my life is very constant home/work/gym, if it were an allergy i would have it every day but i dont.
I am not going to rule out the allergy theory and think i might just go and see a allergy expert.

Due to the fact that the megadose of vitamin C had no effect, it sounds like allergies. Whenever I get a cold, the vitamin C always stops it dead.

I still tend to think its allergies. You should see a specialist.

Have you tried Probiotics?

Probiotics and digestive enzymes are something everyone should be aware of. The benefits are excellent and I am sure they wouldn't hurt this situation.

you saw 4 doctors... that gave you no help. this means u need to see 5 or 6. bro you should not be feeling sick all the time, its not healthy physcally or mentally. you need to get this worked out. u need to see a specialist and tell them exactly what you have told us.
