    To glutamine or not glutatmine?

Can someone set the record straight...

I have been reading an awful lot lately saying Glutamine is a non-essential supp. Basically saying you would have to take so many grams to be effective it is not cost effective. I realize most PP have some glut already in them.

So what gives is it truely worth actually buying a glut supplement or are most people getting enough from PPs?

Well...I don't have any scientific evidence to back it up. I just know that since I have been supplementing Glutamine on its own and taking it seperately (not in my regular PP) that I do tend to recover faster. When I take it before bed I do tend to wake up feeling less "sore" than if I had not taken it.

    my 2 cents

Arguments both ways, try and see. 5-10 grams a day is what I have read to be an effective dose.

Its the most abundant Amino Acid int he human body and can be easily be synthesized by the human body when in need. If one's diet is high in protein you will have more Glutamine that you will ever need.

Do you use it? In the article section on this forum they have an article that seems to support it's use especially as an anti-catabolic. I used to use it but over the last two seasons I haven't. I do throw in NO this time of the year because that really does seem to exagerate vascularity which looks pretty kewl.

I agree with giants, but you can add some glutamine after working out to reduce soreness, and it will be cost effective. Plus, what ur body doesn't use will be pissed out neways

IDK, it shouldn't be cuz its the most abundant amino in the body, so what if someone who doesnt work out eats alot of meats, there stores will fill up, and they will excrete the extra.
does that mean if u take too much it can be bad for ur kidneys?
Then alot of people would soon be needing dialysis!

Google my friend "Dave Barr" and "Glutamine". He destroyed the dogma on Glutamine awhile ago. He's got an M.A. in Nutrition and worked for this little company called "NASA" as a nutritionist.
