Vitamin D low, how much should I take per day?

I had posted a while back that the Dr. prescribed me 50,000 iu's twice per week, but for 8 pills @ 30.00 I think that's a bit much. I had 5000 iu pills now and opted not to get the prescrip stuff this time. Can I just take 2 of the 5k iu's of the D3 ED? I know it's not 100,000 total for the week, but I thought the D3 was more potent so that's why I ask.

Your 50K Drisdol D2's don't numerically convert to the same amount of D3. Yes, you can take 10K D3 per day if you know your level is low. Always best to start lower and titrate up based on BW though. Remember to take these with a large meal as they are fat soluble and absorb better that way. D is actually a hormone and one of the most important ones out there. It's in every cell in your body. Just don't overdo it as it can be toxic. Remember, fat soluble, not water soluble.

Ok great, thanks for that info. I was already taking 5k iu's a day, and it still came back low.. I don't really understand why. Does doing a lot of cardio by chance flush it out or something weird?

Cardio, no. Just add more and be sure to test in the near future. Give you an example. My normal protocol is 5K D3 per day and 1 D2 (Drisdol @ 50K) per week. It kept my D level around 80 on a scale of 30 - 100. I recently started tanning twice per week for the last few months. Pulled BW and my D level was around 118. Goes to show how tanning can influence D levels as well. I took several weeks off from any D and recently started back on only the D3 for now. I thought it was amazing how much tanning effected my numbers.

Yeah, that I interesting that it would affect it that much. I don't want to overdo it, but my D level was pretty low when I got my blood test results back. Oddly enough, my free test was up almost over normal which usually is the opposite when D is low... or so I've read. Doing my 70 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week really shot my test levels up. I'm at 834 from 650ish just from that... nothing else changed. My free I don't remember exactly, but it was high enough my doctor asked me if I was using any steroids or supplements for test. I thought I'd feel a little stronger though and that doesn't seem to have changed.

It takes a substantial number elevation to really "feel" a difference, imho. A couple hundred points usually is not noticed, unless you're really tanked.

ok, well that makes sense. I will say I do feel much calmer though. I was very high strung before so that helps me a lot.
