Enough Is Enough: Stop Wasting Money on Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

In conclusion, β-carotene, vitamin E, and possibly high doses of vitamin A supplements are harmful. Other antioxidants, folic acid and B vitamins, and multivitamin and mineral supplements are ineffective for preventing mortality or morbidity due to major chronic diseases. Although available evidence does not rule out small benefits or harms or large benefits or harms in a small subgroup of the population, we believe that the case is closed— supplementing the diet of well-nourished adults with (most) mineral or vitamin supplements has no clear benefit and might even be harmful. These vitamins should not be used for chronic disease prevention. Enough is enough.

Man... I'm exhausted from debunking all these random studies... I'm leaving this one alone.

it blows my mind how many people need a study of some sort to justify doing/not doing something....studys are great but they can be slanted to prove or disprove whatever...a lot of them are funded by pharmaceutical companys with the intent of leaning toward showing there product is effective and what not..peeps should understand that although they are valuable tools, for every study "proving" something there is another one dis-proving it a lot of times again financed by someone who stands to benefit by its results monetarily...just throwing that out there...

Well said. And that is the truth. The other problem is most details are behind closed doors and folks take the "abstracts/conclusions" as a definitive answer. Even when it's public info, majority will not read the study in its entirety.

I believe this is one of the first "big data" studies being evaluated which is not based on observational data but randomized trials. I understand if it is tiring to debunk stuff like this but your input would be much appreciated if you have the time as I value it highly.

    Thanks
