    Omega 3, 6, 9 with flaxseed? Help out...

    Just wondering if someone could let me know exactly how important is it to have the omega 3, 6, and 9 (fats). Is it worth buying a supplement as i was at the store and there was a "all in one" with Flaxseed oil as well. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a waste of money...

    i do eat alot of steak (one every second day or so) if that makes a different? Also since they are fats...would i put on weight?

    Fat does not make you fat....it will aide in fat burning actually and yes omega 3 6 and 9 are important to have in proper ratios. if there is only one supplement in the world to take besides protein it should be flax oil. it is one thing that i will never be without.

    You have to watch your trigicerides and saturdated fat.

    I think the rule of thumb is you should eat 30% saturated fat
    30% monosaturdated fat (like olive oil)
    30% fish oil/flax seed oil

    you dont want to eat transfatty acids like corn oil or peanut oil.

    Also if I am not mistaken, flax seed oil is not a "complete" Omega 3 oil, fish oil is "more complete" then flax seed but idealy you should take both fish oil and flat seed oil and that is 2 parts fish oil with 1 part flax seed. Also good idea for most adults is about 4 grams fish oil, 2 grams flax seed and scatter it across the day and not all at once so you dont get the sh*ts.

    As for omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids, dont worry about them, a cheese burger generally gives you double all you need of the 6 and 9's. What most Americans are absolutely starved for is the Omega 3 and Olive oil type fats.

    good point on the fish oil caps...although flax seed oil contains around 7g of omega 3's it needs to be converted to EPA and DHA to get the benefits. Fish oil is already in that form and requires no conversion...though flax oil does convert, there is some that does not so fish oil and flax oil are both necessary to get everything out of EFA's

    Only problem with caps is that your body only absorbs 60% of a pill. Stick with liquids if you can. I believe it's about 90% that way.

    I love flax seed oil.......after learning on the board how helpful it was I will never stop using it!!!! Only one thing it taste like A$$
