does it really matter what kind of protein supplement you take... isn't protein protein??? i mean, is a generic brand pretty much just as good as the "top of the line" protein except much cheaper???

No and no. There are different types of protein sources and different sources are more bioavailable in the human body than others. Also, the more expensive proteins tend to have extra things in them like glutamine, or they can be bound so the protein won't be destroyed by the stomach acids. Some have lactose and some don't. The higher quaility proteins tend to be less desturbing to the body such as causing gas and bloating. Also compare the amount of protein per serving. If you only get 10g in one and 50g in the other, and you should be getting 50g per meal, you may end up having to drink 5 servings to make up the difference. So look at a couple different proteins side by side, compare the grams of protein provided per serving, compare the serving sized (some try to fool you by saying 50 or 60g per serving, but you have to drink like 2-3cups to get one serving size), compare the other ingredients such as the aminos, glutamine, lactose, fat, etc.
