ive been taking muay thai for 3 years now and every class begins with 10 min of skipping rope -believe me that alone is a workout and its excellent for cardio ***ending how long you want to skip for. make sure to wear sneakers it will help to absorb your feet rather than doing it bearfoot.

Hell yes it is... It is great cardio training. Not sure how long you should do it for. I would guess the same amount of time as you would do any "intense" cardio.

I belive this will build you calves as well, for the sort time I boxed we did lot of skipping rope and for me it definetly made my claves grow.

Skipping rope is no joke. I had to break it up into sets of 1minute on and 1 minute off. Did that for a half hour and couldn't walk for 2 days, pathetic I know but it was a wake up call for me and my lake of cardio and yes it definitely works the calves. Gave me charley horses for those 2 days. I hope I never let myself get that out of shape again(and I thought I was in good shape at the time!).
