Getting certified online, unless it's through ISAA or a respectable company, would be a waste of time/money. There are 1000's of sites out there that will certify pretty much anyone, those are horrible.
I went through ACE, I failed the first test but I'm gonna be taking it again in August. The ACE is test is freakin hard.

The tests are much easier if you have a background in exercise science, from college.

Of course, I'm a business major, and had to teach myself all the of the ACE material, it was my first real in depth look into the stuff, although I failed the test I learned a ton

I major in sports medicine so I passed my NSCA - SCS & CPT tests the first time. A buddy of mine, who didn't have the necessary background, failed his NSCA - CPT test. It is very valuable to have a business major, though, because it allows you to be more versatile. That's what I was going to go for. Now I could kick myself in the ass for not getting it.

i got my cert through IFPA. though not online, they send you the material, give you a few months, then you go to a test site where they have a several hour review, then the test.

they focus mostly on physiology and kinesiology, and it's a pretty simple test IMO. i went with them mainly cause of cost. i signed up last minute for a test and either only got 2 weeks to study or had to wait another 8 months cause those were the only times the local site was having the tests. so, i only had 2 weeks to study and i still did fine. then again, i had been studying on my own, mostly through bodybuilding mags for a good year prior to that.

i wouldn't do one of those online courses, cause many gyms won't even accept those kind of certs cause they know they're a joke. names like IFPA, ACE, and ISSA will be accepted at almost any gym and give you the knowledge you need to start.

you want to make sure you get a decent cert that provides a good foundation of knowledge for you to start. i've seen way too many people with worthless certs that just did very little for their clients cause of it.
