    Golf for fat loss.

Im in college and i work at the local college golf course. I get to play golf for free so i can go when ever i want for as long as i want. Do you think it be effectively for fat loss if i did an AM golf seesion for between 9 - 18 holes on foot carrying a 50 lb bag ? Id be playing by myself meaning i wouldnt be spending alot of time waiting on a partner to take there shots so the walking would be fairly steady and the course is somewhat hilly too.

IMO yes. Though I am no expert, it would make sense that you would burn a decent amount of calories. Walking outside in the sun, up and down hills carrying a 50 lb bag... Why wouldnt you burn calories... Playing golf is probably not effective as walking on a treadmill at an incline, but it is certainly better than nothing. You will be burning a lot more calories than sitting around doing nothing!

    Let's say you weigh 200lbs

If you add the 50lbs for the golf sticks and bag and walk for 3 hours at 4mph you should burn 1531 calories. This doesn't include practice swings, actual swings and hills. So yes, Golf is a great way to burn calories if you walk and carry your clubs. Also, If you suck, you'll be zig-zagging the course and walking more. Make sure that you walk about 4mph for the calculation to be relatively correct. You can always add weight to the bag as well and it's low impact and a good swing will keep you limber. Tip: Stretch on the tee box while you wait for your playing partners to drive (two for one benefit).

I've posted this before but I'm a 13 handicap and I used a pedometer and GPS to track my walking distance on ana verage round on a 6500 yard course and I used to walk close to 10 miles per round. Good low impact exercise.
