    Streaching when sore

    First off Hello to everyone.

I just started back working out yesterday. I was wondering what is y'alls take on stretching when you are sore.

I did chest and tri's yesterday and I'm wanting to go in and do Back and Bi's today. Before I started I was wanting to stretch a little. I'm so damn sore I don't know if it would be a good idea. Maybe I should trust by body on this one but I need y'alls opinion on this one.

I plan my workouts so that I dont have to deal with any sore muscle groups.
If your chest is sore than work out legs then back.....

    Here is my routine:
    Day 1: Chest/Tris
    Day 2: off
    Day 3: Legs
    Day 4: off
    Day 5: Back/bis
    Day 6: off
    Day 7: shoulders/traps
    Day 8: off
    Day 9: repeat

ok if your chest is sore, and it is 2 days later, i wouldnt work chest, but now if it was a leg day, i would do legs, you have to set up the program so that it doesnt overlap muscles that still need more rest.

Yes but you should hop on the bike or do a light jog for 5 minutes to warm up then stretch.

I dont even stretch before working out anymore. Most of the new research shows that stretching has no effectiveness for preventing injury and some studies have even shown small but statistically significant increases in injury for pre-contest stretching. However stretching after exercise is still a very good idea. This is a really hot topic among the sports med people right now. Lots of studies are going on now as we speak.

This is what I have been taught as well and I stand by it. For example, if I'm doing chest for the day, before I start my actual bench press, I'll do about 2 sets of extremely light weight, 20 reps, then stretch out afterwards before I go heavy. I also believe in stretching thoughtout the workout...has always worked best for me

I am not really a big fan of stretching and I have never had any sort of injury but this is what is being taught now. I am getting this information from university, a head athletic therapist from a national sports team and many other individuals from the health field.

Usually before sports you should do balistic stretching which does not require the warming of muscles and that may be what you guys do before a game but it is now being taught that before a practice or lifting to warm up the muscles before stretching them because there is a risk of injury when stretching cold muscles. It is a new thing so Im sure many people do not warm up muscles before a stretch but Im just making you guys aware of what is being told to althletes these days by their coaches or trainers who were taught this method of training.
