    I would do ANYTHING!!

I would do absolutely anything to regain my ability to fall asleep naturaly.

Gradualy my insomnia got worse and worse and worse until a year ago I was forced to start eating meds that help me fall asleep. But if I for some reason dont have them aviable I cant sleep at all.

Its COMPLETELY impossible for me to fall asleep without them
I even have to take twice as much as my shrink told me to take to fall asleep

This is pissing me off. I never want to be forced to start eating some **** benzo to sleep.

Nowdays I hate to go to beed because I know Im gonna be laying there for atleast 2 hours even with the meds. Twisting and turning and never getting tired. Without the meds Im twisting and turning ALL night and if Im lucky I fall asleep maby 7 a clock in the morning.

I just miss the feeling of becoming tired in the evening/night, becoming all silly, laughing like hell and just longing to crawl into beed and fall asleep. Enjoying the minutes before falling asleep knowing I have a long nice night of sleep ahead of me.

Is there any way to reverse this? Im not even sure its a mental or physical problem Is there any kind of sleep clinics that specialises in this that can help me out??

well, if you end up wanting to sleep at 7 am... I would suggest a day of sleep depravation. Stay awake 24 hours. Not even a power nap. Just wait until the time you want go to bed at and then crash out. Are on clen , ephedra, or something else for cutting that makes you hyped up? I remember a while ago you posted about cutting. That stuff will make it hard to fall asleep naturally.

Sleep deprevation doesnt work. I once for 3 weeks in a row only sleept 2-3 hours a night. I was dead tired all day. Feelt like beeing eternaly hung over but it was still impossible for me to get quality sleep. Or well I would get some sleep. In uni during lectures It was IMPOSSIBLE for me to stay awake. No matter what I did I feel asleep constantly. One of the main reason I failed so bad my first year of university.

Not on any cutting super supps right now but they usualy have no negative or positiv effect what so ever on my sleeping. If I dont mega does t-3 wich I will never ever do again(a stupid experiemnt I did once).

Melatonin I would love to try but I havent seen it aviable in sweden anywhere

How can I check if this is a mental or physical problem? Thats what Im most worried about. If its mental I can beat it somehow without drugs and if its physical then I know Im gonna be stuck with meds for the rest of my life

Im willing to bet money on this theory. The meds you are taking now, if they were replaced by a exact looking placebo i bet you would think they were the real thing and just fall asleep. Most of it is phycological.

The thing that kind of ****s upp that theory is that I for a time had another med that didnt do **** for me. It was Atarax(hydroxizin) But I sure belived it would help but it didnt. Or well it helped a bit but not as effective as propavan.

Only 3 things so far makes me sleep. Propavan(propiomazin), Remeron(mirtazapin, realy a ssri but it helps with sleep to) and pot. ohh yeah if I drink until I almost puke then I can pass out and sleep real good.
Remeron made me sleep like a baby but I couldnt stand the side effects.

I have never tried valium, stesolid or anything like that and I dont want to touch it either cause I would become hooked to it.

My insomnia goes in periods. Sometimes I might be lucky and can fall asleep naturaly or by only taking 1 propavan. other times I have to take 3-4 propavan AND 3-4 atarax to sleep. Not to mention I supplement with zink year round, if I take that away I imidietly lower my quality of sleep.

The propavan and atarax I have prescriptions on from a phsyciatrist. But I feel that I would need some more help. Should I turn to a regular doctor or to another physciatrist?? I want to get to the bottom of this **** and know FOR SURE what is causing it. Im pissed that they just write me a prescription without examining me in any way.

I dunno if this will help.. but I've noticed late at night, sitting in front of the computer will keep me up. I can stay up all night if i'm in front of the computer.

Try watching TV, if that doesnt work... try reading a book, puts me to sleep fast.

Of all things, playing solitaire on my Palm puts me to sleep like nothing else...

Having the TV on in my room keeps me up, and so does a good book... sitting at the computer is the worst, I can (and often) pull all-nighters sitting in front of that screen.

I try never to use any drugs to sleep... when insomnia hits hard, I take a hit of nyquil and valerian root. I find I have a real hard time getting up in the morning though when I use that...

Have you tried simple things... like a nice relaxing hot bath and a cup of hot milk before bed? Put on some soothing music (like some early Sarah McLaughlan or some mellow classical) and you're out cold in no time flat.

I cant read because Im the kind of guy that gets so consumed by what Im reading that I have to force myself to put down the book.

I cant watch tv because late at night even the most boring **** gets me so interested that I dont get sleepy.

Music works decently good to relax me. But I prefer trance to get relaxed(yeah I know Im one strange ass mofo), calm music just anoys me lol.

Limiting my computer time at night might be the best bet. When I think about it my insomnia started to get bad when I started to surf the net late at night. I have always had troubble falling asleep. I have never been the kind of guy that just puts my head to the pillow and Im out in 10-15 minutes.

But it was never this bad before I started sitting infront of the computer alot. To bad that Im horribly addicted to the net. Gonna be rough to try to tone it down

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Appriciate it alot. We seem to have a lot of insomniacs(is this even a word?) here

When talking about food. One of the thing that works the BEST to put me to sleep is a HUGE fatty carb rich meal. That puts me to sleep **** good, to bad I cant do that any other night then the eating days

Hey bro, I know this will sound strange but try some turkey. Turkey contains some kind of chemical that makes me sleep like a baby. Also it'd definetly cover your protien needs.

If I remember correctly, you're a science guy. Start reading some journals, pretty taxing reading, and there's millions of them. It won't take long for you to fall asleep once you start reading them, especially late at night, and they're very vanilla so you won't get consumed reading them.

I dig science yeah. Not a bad idea at all. Il just find some sites with some dense physics theories, print them out and then read them before beed.

would realy need something like that. It feels like Im losing the sharpness of my mind now this year when I have no school and I aint reading ****. Only watching tv and sitting here infront of the computer. When I read alot I always feel "smarter" and sharper.

Thanks for that advice saboudian Il do that for sure

That would be "tryptophan." It's an amino acid, available from better health food shops (but not here in the US thanks to the FDA).

Milk or hot cocoa helps sometimes too. But the best suggestion so far is running (or walking) a few miles a day. Get a dog and take it for long walks. Or take a neighbor's dog for long walks. Or take a girlfriend for long walks in the woods . . .

That'll work too. However, I was thinking more along the lines of technical science journals just because they are not as "exciting" as a website (You will see, and you can read forever, seriously). I'm sure there are plenty of journals out there in physics, I don't know any good ones off the top of my head. My university actually has an online data base of all the journals and I can access their articles online from my pc, maybe your uni has something similar.

5-htp works ok, but if u take too much, u end up feeling like a zombie the next morning.

try some ketotifin (sp) or valerian root & kava kava together. those work wonders

Go to class and tape some of your most boring lectures. Play them back at night while you lie in bed. If you fall asleep listening to them in the day you might in the evening too.

johan - look up some GBL (GAMMA BUTYROLACTONE) - its legal where you are - 6 hrs of guaranteed sleep, no sides - dont take it at any time till bed tho - it can be addictive for some people - but not if you dont use it for anything but sleep - make sure its pure grade and take care to use only what you need, maybe 2-3ml will knock you out flat - then you can gradually use less and less

I would go cold turkey on the meds for a week or so. Then try to figure out if there is a psychological reason for your sleep patterns. Depression or anxiety can mess with your sleep. You may not realize you have either one until you really sit down and think about it.

What are you thinking about, when you are trying to fall asleep? Are you afraid you are going to miss something? Are you worried that you didn't get something done? Concerned that someone might come over? Missing an ex-GF? Worried about your job, or school? The answer is most likely in your head.

A VERY hot bath might do the trick, but you can get dependent on them just like on the meds. For this to work, you need water just short of scalding, hot enough to be painful when you first stick a foot in it. You should have to go "Ai ai ai ai ahhhh ai aye yi yi!" as you get used to it. Your heart rate should elevate considerably in the first 10 minutes. Take your pulse often and if it gets over 160, time to get out. At any rate, don't stay in more than a half hour. Cool down a bit with a WARM shower. Be careful... you will probably be dizzy when you stand up out of the tub. A brisk rub with a towel and off to bed. You will probably sleep like a baby. BTW this also helps me with the DOMS... greatly attenuates my pain.

Johan , I know what you are experiencing is not fun. I HAD insomnia to. No mather what i did, yes eventually i fell a sleep but maybe after 3-4houres, but i still know the houres passing by just lying there in bed.

Lets say its 11h in the evening. You want to go to sleep because you have to get up at 6h. Well dont go in you bed and try to sleep cause it just wont work in your situation. I found that when i feel like i have to get to sleep . I put in a VHS or DVD of a movie i rented and i watched it. 8/10 times i watched it , i fell asleep automatically. I acctually only saw 2 movies of the 10 i rented. But that didnt mather at all. After that i knew that my insomnia was all in my mind. I go to bed but i think about the day before and that day before when i coudnt get to sleep, so automatically i again think that i wont sleep today. After watching movies and movies and movies i knew that my problem was not falling into sleep because i did falll asleep sometimes even after 30minutes. When you make a habbit of watching those movies, you wont be afraid anymore to get into sleep. You will just know you will fall a sleep. The bottom line is you are afraid of not falling into sleep late in the evening. Then after a lot of movies i just watched TV , i go in my bed at 22h watch tv and after 1h or less im off to dreamland (make sure you have a sleep function on your TV). Then after just watching TV i just went to bed when i feel like it and i can get into sleep normally.

Johan if you again want to experience the feeling of getting tired, just stay awake. I did that , the first night i did not sleep but arround 12h the other day i started to get tired , then keep on fighting NOT to get to sleep. After you wake up you will feel better because you will know that it is still possible to get tired and fall asleep. Im saying this because insomnia is just all IN YOUR HEAD!!!

This all may sound VERY silly to others. But insomnia is not funny ****. Its a disease in you brain and only the person who has it can get rid of it. Well Johan . Try what i did maybe it will work for you !

(If that doesnt work , instead of sleeping pills you can smoke a fat joint before you go to bed, works like a charm)

1 more thing , if there are people in your family with a history of paranoia or schizofrenia (i have schizofrenia) then it could be that you problem comes from them. If you have any question just ask me in PM cause i know how you are feeling.

    GL
