Very important argument
What about that one thread where I discussed whether it was best to put peanut butter on first BEFORE the jelly. Now many of you argued that you like to put the peanut butter on first. Well for example being why JELLY NEEDS to be put on FIRST is because once you apply the jelly to the sandwich bread, you then proceed to put peanut butter on. Now if you are the average person, you use the SAME KNIFE. Almost no one likes peanut butter in their jelly because jelly is used for things OTHER than PB and J sandwiches; Where as, peanut butter is used more often in conjunction with the jelly. Now, there are a very FEW who do use peanut butter SOLELY for snack purposes BUT, a bit of jelly mixed in the peanut butter jar is welcomed. The jelly however, is often not a welcome particpant of having peanut butter share its occupation in the jelly jar. Peanut butter mixed with jelly when the jelly is not used for a PB and J sandwich is obtrusive and unwelcomed. For example: Toast wtih butter and jelly does not go well with remnants of old peanut butter mixed in with it.
So, my argument clearly describes how JELLY needs to be applied first to the sandwich bread as not to allow any peanut butter on the SAME knife. Since the jelly is applied FIRST, there is NO chance of peanut butter being mixed in the jelly jar.
SO YES jelly is put on a PB and J first. Regardless of what my friend says especially after I sock him for disagreeing iwth me on such an important matter.
So screw you all
Just keeping my post count up.....your ass where you enjoy it being.

yeah, jelly is easier to wipe off on the new piece of bread than peanut butter. so you don't have to worry about jelly in your peanut butter.

OMG. I could not eat just peanut butter on ANYTHING. To dry. Just like the got milk commercials. Jelly does have a lot of sugar and crap but it helps with the peanut butter. Just dont go sticking the peanut butter knife in the jelly. I hate tasting peanut butter in the jelly jar.
I bought that squeeze jelly jar and it takes forever for that stuff to reach the spout. I flip it upside down for a day and open the lid and it just keeps oozing out without being squeezed. Either way I am screwed. This jelly thing is driving me crazy.
How do you all deal with such stress. I cant handle it.

The part that sucks is: The knife edge seems too small to scoop jelly out of the jar with. Just when you think you get a good glob of jelly to paste on the bread, it slips off the knife and back into the jar, or even worse, onto the counter or floor. You then step away hoping it doesnt land on your shoe or foot only to find that you stepped in the jelly. Now you are tracking sticky jelly all over the kitchen floor and have to either hop to a towel or take your shoe off.
I thought about using a spoon to scoop the jelly up with and dabble it onto the bread but then trying to spread peanut butter on the bread with a spoon is complicated because you have left over peanut butter in the indention of the spoon.
OR. Sometimes if you have really soft bread and have crunchy chunky thick peanut butter, you tear your bread apart trying to spread the peanut butter evenly on the entire piece of bread. You dont wanna leave an uneven layer of PB on your bread becasue then your jelly to PB ratio is off and you taste more of the jelly or peanut butter per each bite of your sandwich. No one wants that. The average person wants an equal taste of PB to jelly throughout the entire sandwich consumption. That is the whole process of good PBand J making. I have yet to make the PERFECT sandwich due to all the problems discussed above. It is my obesseion, dream and desire to make the ULTIMATE PB and J sandwich.

Like I stated over on the other thread, first you apply the jelly then you LICK off the excess before proceeding to the peanut butter phase................same principle works with butter and jelly for biscuits. Also this technique is a must when you have unwanted guests.
For real I don't do jelly.......I like honey on my sanmiches.

First you toast a slice of flax bread
The peanut butter is layed on thick first
then comes a thicker later of NUTELLA!
And then banana slices!
It's to DIE for!!!
ps: Jelly is for whimps! real men like nutella!

This is what you do:
Put peanut butter on two slices of bread.
Take out a THIRD slice of bread, put jelly on BOTH sides.
Put the jelly slice in between the two peanut butter slices and BAM...problem solved! RR

You all have it wrong. The proper way to make a PBJ sandwich is to First put on a thick azz layer of PB. Then you put two fingers on either side of your blade of choice and squeegy off the left over PB. The next step is to lick your fingers clean. The jelly is applied by tipping your jar at a 45 degree angle to your PB'd bread and slicing off the desired amount of jelly. Here is the key step to the perfect sammy: using clockwise circular motion you blend the PB and Jelly together to achieve the perfect PB to Jelly ratio. All of your problems are solved with this method, and you can be manly about it because you get your fingers dirty.

Ever buy those PRE mixed PB and J jars. I thought it was a brilliant idea until I actually bought one of em. Sure it is great AT FIRST but, half way through, you realize that you used more jelly than peanut butter and now the jar is denied of all the jelly and just the PB is left. So, you still have to go out and buy another jar of jelly hence coming back to the previous dilemna

Well I have never put PB and J on just ONE slice of bread. I can't do that. I always make it into a sandwich, meaning TWO slices of bread. Now, since I use two slices, I put the peanut butter on ONE slice, and the jelly on the OTHER slice. Now, I guess that doesn't really make much difference since you are mainly concerned with the situation of having one compound mixed with the other through the use of that particular knife. I usually put the JELLY on the first slice, and just rinse the knife with fast flowing water, and THEN I put the PB on the other slice. Now, the reason for this is, we ALL know that JELLY will rinse off a knife MUCH sooner than PB, and you don't want to have to scrub the knife.
SO THAT is what it's all about! The quick 2 second rinse!
