Question about giving blood...
Does anybody know if it's okay to work out the day I give blood? I'm giving tomorrow at 2:30 and I usually go to the gym around 11:30..... do you think it'd be okay to do or do I need to skip a day?

i dont know. but i would assume that if you workout before hand you would be fine. afterwards you might be a little too tired...

Yeah, youll be fine if you workout before hand. If you worked out afterwards you might pass out, ask Doc M about it.

well guys... last time I gave blood I didn't work out before.... and they had to poke me about 10 times to find a vein.... I just don't wanna get in there and then not be able to give.... that would make me sad

only problem I would see is that they may think that your bp is a little high, you might just want to skip a day because one is usually weak after giving blood anyway...I should know, I done medical drug studies where you give your blood 17 times in 1.5 days...2 weekends in a row, payed 500 bucks. I've done those about 7 times...talk about a scar on my forearm, looks like I am a heroin junkie or something...the broke times of a college student

Lower your bf% then it will be easier to find a vein...
I wouldnt workout after giving blood.

I don't know if this is related....but when I was in High School....we had a guy that was Mr. Teen LA move to town. He was seriously muscular (esp for a high school kid). Anyway...he had some massive veins. When they made him squeeze the ball to pump up his already major veins....the vein blew as soon as the needle went in. It was sooo gross.
Peam.....make sure you are very well hydrated. It will help them find the veins (so I'm told....I am SOOOO needle phobic).

Peam..If you want to work out that is fine..Just make sure you keep hydrated or they may have problems finding an adequate vein..Also make sure there is plenty of time for you to recover and stabilize your blood sugar levels so you don't get nauseated or light headed after the blood draw..I would also recommend eating something after working out..

Peam, missing training for one day won't kill you. If your concerned just miss the gym. Besides the safety issues, which Doc M has addressed, if your concerned about giving blood your workout might not be a productive one.

Well does the fact that both nurses proclaim I have the smallest veins they've ever seen have anything to do with my BF%? Cuz there was some huge fat guy next to me giving blood and they had NO problem finding his veins. Hmmmmm.... are you a nurse Palme?
