Deca to help herniated/degenerated lower L-5 back disk...

Im in my early 30's and I suffered a L-5 lower back disk herniation about a year ago and since then the disc has started severe degeneration... Ive undergone 3 epidural shots which had provided absolutely no relief.... The next step was supposed to be a discectomy but because of the the rapid degeneration and condition of the disc the Surgical Specialist said that it would be of no help or improvement... So only viable step now would be a spinal fusion which the surgical specialist stated he does not recommend for me and I would be better off just managing the pain with pain killers...

My question..... I just started long term/indefinate HRT with an anti-aging doc/clinic and deca is available... Would it be of any benefit for adding deca to my program to try and get some possible back relief since deca does help improve joints, etc....?

None of those drugs will help, go see a chiropractor or do physical therapy that will help with pain and help reduce the progression of the disease. It will never go away only thing you can do now is manage the pain and progression. Which with proper care you could greatly help both in most cases. Pain killers and epidurals only mask the symptoms you need to get to the root cause to help. Infact epidural shots if used for prolonged periods of time can actually increase the risk of many diseases. Those things are great for acute pain but chronic use has a risk of potentially serious side effects.

Im suffering from similar injuries l5s1 and degeneration in upper spine. Many surgery centers out there offer many options, only problem is there is no gurantee you will walk out worse. Training the abs and glutes really helps reduce lower back pain. The only thing that ive felt relief from taking was hgh, it really really helped and I noticed when I went off the pain had returned.

I get alot of lower back pain ive got a slight scoliosis and through my study its been reported over 70% of lower back pain is caused by tight hamstrings pulling down on the spine ,and myself having tight hamstrings i started stretching them every morning and night and no word of a lie my back very rarely gets sore since doing this i cant do deadlifts anymore but im fine with squats. everyone is different but just my .2c

i highly recommend a spinal fushion if your pain doesnt go away, dont put it off if it gives you problems everyday.

post your problem in the injury/rehab section, there are at least 10 people who have the surgery before.

I don't know anything about herniated disks so im reluctant to post but if I can help then i must.. I have lower back pain just regular pain guys get. A couple of days a week I will pyramid up on a back extension machine. I typically do 4 sets of 20 reps eventually. I use strict form. I am on my feet all day for work. This exercise makes my back feel better and it makes it easier to get through a work day. Sometimes I will mess around and go up in weight to less reps but really I am doing this to save my back so for me its about form and going to a burn.

Agreed with ALL the above. I had herniated disk from age 23 - 43. I had surgery on L3 & L4, 5 years ago. It was the best choice I could have made. I just with I did it 10 years earlier. Find a good doctor 100%. I had gotten to a point I could only walk/stand for 5-10 minutes at a time.

Deca or test will do nothing to help or recover. Lots of good physical therapy Maybe...... Exercise is your friend. I have been doing pain management for several years now due to L5 rupture also that left me crippled until after the surgery.

The epidural shots NEVER did anything for me either. If you have sciatic nerve issue 2 things will help. ICE, LOTs of ice and if that does not do it then Prednisone... This is a life saver. Sciatic is when you feel pain, stabbing knife in your upper butt cheek and it shoots down your leg or legs. Also you can have numbness down your legs, tingling.

Yes, I do have sciatica extending from right buttock down through the thigh into the shin/calve area which feels like I constanstly have shin splints throbbling...

I did hava a EMG which revealed nerve damage to the right and left leg (more severe on the right) which is due to the pinching/pinched nerve in the L5-S1 area.

Unfortunately, as far as surgery goes... My Dr. (who is a spinal specialist), does not want to perform a spinal fusion this early in my life... He will do it if it is absolutely necessarry but right now he wants to refrain.

Maybe this leaves the door open to try more conservative methods such as HGH, etc....

Anyway, in the upcoming few weeks I am going to be scheduled to have a Discography which I might probably decline to have being done because im tired of the needling into my damn spine.. the epidurals hurt like a bitch and the discography is said to be much worse.. Also, Im taking more risks of injury and problems with all this spine poking especially when they are unnecessarily probing healthy disks...

thanks for the comments and feedback..

Got a little worried myself after reading this!

I do have sciatica extending from right buttock down through the thigh into the shin/calve area which feels like I constanstly have shin splints throbbling

This is almost how i have been feeling for a couple of years on and off,the last 5days i cant almost stand up without extrem pain and i have to sit and sleep at night, but i got recomended by my doctors(more than 1)to keep on training but not at the same level and with loose weights, only the machines so i dont lift slightley off balance and goes to a chiropractor and also gets a few pain killers for the pain that the worst thing about them is that they are addicting due to being a synthetic form of morphine called Temgesic(buprenorphine)0,4mg*8tabs/day+ketogan(ketobemidon i think the generic name is??)8tabs/day to+diclofenc gel 11,6mg/ml+paracetamol 1gr/tabs*2-3/day so pretty heavy medicated a couple of times/year,but tries to skip the pain killers that are addictive for a pretty apperant reason(can get addicted to that shit and that is not a part of me wanting to be)so pretty much training 24/7 and chiropractor that is the things that has helped me with my problems(but i have arthritis reumathism"dont now if spelled right??")and also a shoulder that was torn to pieces many years agoe at the gym that has improved the last couple of years but makes it self reminded on and of a few times a year.

But i dont think it is the same problems i am having that you have?

Certanly sucks when having pain and cant do anything about it(i can but dont want to get addicted to opiates for the rest of my life like a junkie,my doctor thinks that i am pretty insane that i rather have extreme pain on and of than use the painkillers i have on prescription every day instead, the sickest thing the doctor has said is it doesent matter if i get addicted or not when i have it on prescription because i wount get sick any way and have a cold turkey or what it is called when some one stops taking drugs or heavy medications??)Dumbass doctors sometimes i fell they are pretty ****ed upp when there is a injection i can get 2times/week that is a kind of cortison containing a painkiller that is not addictive and only is in the area of the pain(like a dentist injection, but injected at doctors office into a muscle close to the pain!)but the doc dont want to give me injections for some reason(only when the legs n feet has swolen up pretty much and hurts like hell and the same with shoulder and so on!)do not now why this is,would be better than to be addicted to opiates insead is my belive atleast!!

But i suppose it has to do with the fact that the form of injections i get a couple times/year if taken to often it breaks down the skelleton instead or something like that i was told by the highest doctor in the city that i meat to talk to and check up how bad the problem is,but best recomentions was to keep on training and see a chiropractor a few times/week(2-3times)on and off for a couple of weeks on n a few weeks of and that works sometimes, but during the winter coldness nothing works and is in pain atleast once a month that is torture for between 5-9days before it is better(longets time of pain was 4months when i only had a small problem with my artritis in my right foot and up that a single injection cured with in 2-3days!

Both of you, check out/try Prednisone. It has been a life saver for me several times and almost everyone else I have suggested it to with these symptoms. Give it a try then thank me later.
