They put the SSSS there for several reasons:
-you bought your ticket on short notice.
-you have a one-way ticket.
-you didnt check any baggage.
-you paid in cash.
-you exibited aggressive behavior with the ticketing agent and pissed her off.
-your passport says Iraq, Iran, Syria, etc on it.
-you are on a student visa.
-you had your flight changed shortly before departure.

That list isnt all inclusive. They do have a certain percentage of the flight that has to be additionaly screened. So, if no one else on the flight fit the criteria, they would randomly select people.
