Nice! Them 7900's are some monster vid cards. I was thinking about paring up my Asus 6800GT in SLI with a second one or just getting one of those 7900's... or two 7800's in SLI... not really a big gamer but I like building powerful sh!t... in the gym and elsewhere

If you got a good fan, overclock that 3.4 and get 'er up to at least 3.6... you apparently got the memory for it... but 4 gigs of memory might slow down the memory timings...

yeah i know plenty of people who pay 750 for just 4 gigs fo ram.. let alone a 7900 vid card, 320gig harddrive and 3.4processor/mb combo he is giving it to me under his cost because my father has DONE so much for him and brought him so much bussiness by having schools come to him for upgrades (my father does networking and refers schools to him for hardware/computers)

must be going with an Intel CPU. PC2 has no performance increase at the moment because of the BUS.

    I am currently running:
    Athlon 64 3700+ OC'ed to 2.8ghz
    Radeon X1800XT
    2gb DDR400 @ 500mhz

Nice O/C - is that the San Diego? What memory? I got the San Diego +3700 with a gig of OCZ Platinum Rev 2. I had the overclock screamin' but backed it down to 2.3Ghz with the memory at 420mhz (1T 2-2-2-5). I had it up to 2.6 (memory at 472mhz) and it passed Prime95 and MemTest with no problems... and Sandra showed it beating the Intel 3.8Ghz and smoking the Intel DDR2 5300 ram... but then after about 4-5 months it started to crash... must have missed a timing somewhere...

I'm looking to buy the 17" macbook early next month. But there are alot of unresolved issues with Adobe Effects with the emulator, or if you use boot camp for xp you loose platform consistency. Also Final Cut Pro just announced version 6 which isn't going to come out for a while now and it fixed all the bugs from the conversion to intel chips.

Oh, and the new 64bit dual cores drop early fall... Right after summer. And supposedly Mac is going to get their dirty hands on them first... And OS X is built for 64bit chips which means everything will be native. Also if i get the macbook now i might not get full compatibility with windows Vista when that drops...

Ahhh but i want one bad bro...

Oh did i mention it has a 750 markup from windows pc's that have better specs... But def. not a better OS system...

Yup, San Diego core. About to switch out the memory to DDR500 so its not being OC'ed. I can sustain the CPU at 2.8ghz but i will back it down to about 2635~ usually. Right now I am in the process of changing out a lot of my fans and figuring out how to keep it cooler. the Temp never changes but its idling at 41 and just stays there no matter what.

I don't mean to hijack Tai's thread but you're wrong on all fronts. A comparable laptop is the Dell XPS and the 17" MacBook Pro is a better value. ($3,500 for the MacBook vs $4,800 for the Dell) is two pounds lighter, has a higher res screen 1680 vs 1440, is faster by a good 10%.

You can read a short review comparing the MacBook Pro to a Dual G5 and Dell XPS here.

Final Cut Studio is native for intel already. Who told you it wasn't?

    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/

    Native PowerPC. Native Intel.
Step up to Universal. Final Cut Studio now runs natively on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs. That means you can tap into the extraordinary performance of the new MacBook Pro — up to twice as fast as its PowerBook cousins. And if you’re using a Power Mac, you’ll be ready for the next generation of desktop Macs, coming later in 2006.

Boot camp runs XP fine. No problems at all. We have several MacBooks here at work and I've tested it.

Check this out. It's still in beta though.

t’s here! Parallels is proud to launch the Beta program the first virtualization solution specifically designed to work with Intel-powered Apple computers! Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta6 for Mac OS X is NOT simply a "dual-boot" solution; rather, it empowers users the ability to use Windows, Linux and any other operating system at the same time as Mac OS X, enabling users to enjoy the comfort of their Mac OS X desktop while still being able to use critical applications from other OSes.

    Broad OS Support:
Use any version of Windows (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, 2003), any Linux distribution, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, eComStation, or MS-DOS in secure virtual machines running alongside Mac OS X.

    Great Performance:
Driven by full support for dual-core processors and Intel Virtualization Technology (included in almost every new Intel-powered Mac), virtual machines created using Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta6 offer near-native performance and rock-solid stability.

    Unmatched Ease of Use:
Download the program and install it with a single click. Build a virtual machine in seconds using helpful wizards. Configure virtual machines using a simple web-inspired interface.

    Works on any Intel-powered Mac:
Any Intel Powered Macintosh running OS X 10.4.4 or higher is compatible with Parallels Workstation 2.1.

I've tested boot camp at work and it works fine. The only think I don't like is having to reboot to run windows. Do a search on the web for reviews. Most people are installing windows for gaming or to run CAD programs.

When I get my MacBook Pro I'm going to try Parallels Workstation so I can run both OSes at the same time without having to reboot.
