i thought i stay out of this but...the fair comparisons should be with the 4 major sports, and even throw in boxing, ufc etc... maybe compare lance to say a gymnast or a tennis player. ive seen male gymnasts who could do things that none of us could do but i dont think they could be compared to mike tyson. andre aggasi(spelling) can not be compared to wayne gretzky. i could not ride a bike the way armstrong can. actually not even close. and of course i think the guy is a stud but i spent my life playing and coaching pro hockey and i look at the athletes ive played with and against and im sorry, he's not even in the same league. yes he dominated his sport but bike riding compared to the nba? no way. hard work, dedication to anything is awesome. thats why i love this site. but i think its apples and oranges here.

Lance armstrong wins hands down in my books! I dont see how anyone can choose mj over him! Lance is an extrodaniry human being mj is too obviously but not in the same league as lance!

I think there should have been a clear-cut definition of athlete, such as dominant specialized athlete or more athletically gifted or whatever.

Wow.... I cna't believe that on a site like this anyone could be so close minded about a sport such as Le Tour de France. Recognize greatness when you see it... it is apples and oranges.. interesting to compare them though.

basketball = skilled sport
cycling = straight endurance
hard to compare the athletes who compete in them. and besides, since when is basketball or cycling for that matter a sport??

Lance competes in a mostly european sport, and that even most people in Europe don't try to compete at.
I'm White myself, but even i can see that one sport Basketball is a truely Multicultural Sport that spans continents, where the other Cycling, is a Hobby, that only a few take up, and than they compete to see who is the best at it.
PLUS THE DRUG ABUSE EPO, STEROIDS ETC IN CYCLING IS SICKENING!
Maybe they havent caught LANCE red handed yet, like they did his main rivals this year, but in my book I lost all respect for him. Don't call me a hypocrite, I'm not someone millions of kidz look up to.
If I had a kid.. He'll have a MJ poster hanging on the wall. Not Lance the doper.

I'm not going to dignify this with an answer... everyone is welcome to their opinion. But drug abuse is everywhere and if you think basketball is clean then you've got some seriousl wool over your eyes..

and i dont see how you can call basketball a sport and cycling not. personally i think they can be hard to do at their respective levels, but neither is a sport! when you can foul and foul at the end of a game and make the last 30 seconds of a game a foul shooting contest that isnt a sport. also when you cant so much at look at someone without a foul being called thats not a sport. MJ was awesome and there maybe no other athlete that thrived in pressure spots better. the thing is, lance never needed to make a comeback or a last second victory because he was so far ahead of his peers.

MJ is a good athlete.. But lance is a way better. His cardio conditioning is through the roof. Dont get be wrong b-ball players are good atheltes as well. I use to play bball last year for my university but there diets aren't the best. In the off-season. Jordan is the best basketball player but he cant touch Lance armstrong. Football players esp Tight ends and Running backs are way better athletes than Basketball players IMO.

They both show attrbutes of a good athlete, Jordan is strong, quick and can jump through the roof while Lance has endurance, will and mental toughness. I give the edge to Armstrong because he came back from cancer he repaired his broken body to world class stature.

I think that they are both amazing athletes, but I give the edge to Jordan. If you matched the two of them up against eachother in pretty much any sport Jordan would win almost every single one.
If you don't agree with me try and name five sports at which Armstrong could beat Jordan.
